The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: ORANGE Gettin' PEACHed, Nation Goes BANANAS

Mark my words oil exploration investments from the last 10 years or so aren’t going to age well. It was a huge scam perpetrated on investors and they aren’t going to get their money back, much less generate an ROI. There is a lot of oil in the ground being claimed as assets that is never going to get pumped.

Could just be their names were on some kind of watchlist and they got flagged when they bought a ticket.

Am I inventing this or has Trump tweeted out some “deal with China is 'bout to happen!” nonsense on multiple Fridays and it always bumps the market heading into the weekend?

Eh, strongly disagree. 1) Trump only cares about himself 2) even his dumbass can see the market react positively every time tariffs are lifted and drop everytime they are imposed.

Going into an election year, he is a stone cold lock to take a deal, any deal, no matter how bad, and declare victory. Then proclaim at every rally that his shitty deal is the best deal ever negotiated in the history of deals. And that any who says otherwise is fake news, perhaps is even committing treason?

Opening Statement to Congress of Maria Yovanovitch

A climber climbs most of the wall while juggling two balls in one hand. It’s funny, but the wall isn’t meant to keep mountain climbers or even “bad hombres” out. Like a pregnant woman is the last person Trump or Trumpkins would want in the US. I don’t think they’d even bother denying that. Trump could come right out and say, “sure, drug cartels will get over, under or through the wall, but just think about all the pregnant women, children and old people who will fail or fall to their deaths!”

Wow, piling up the losses in court today! Really seems to be an issue for Trump as he continues not complying with anything and not facing any consequences for it!

I think I got one or two likes for this, but no replies from the people who are sure Trump is doomed, but I’ll say it again: 138 people in the Reagan Admin were indicted, many went to jail, nothing happened to Reagan and his VP became POTUS. Maybe this will be different, but I don’t see how someone could be really confident that it won’t.

Did Reagan go out and say in public he was selling arms to the Contras, or financing the drug trade? After he did that, did he then go out in public about a week later and offer to sell arms to other countries, and start up the drug trade with them? Was Bush doing money drop offs and weapons exchanges for Reagan? I hope you’d agree this water is quite a bit different and no one really knows how all this is going to shake out.

Iran-Contra was of course the biggest scandal where people went to jail, and it was a huge fucking scandal, far worse than Trump-Russia or Watergate imo, but it was also hardly the Reagan administration’s only scandal. The HUD, EPA, Defense Contractor and Savings and Loan scandals were all big. And no, he didn’t say it, he had the sense to listen to his handlers (and he was handled) and had a much friendlier press (see On Bended Knee by Mark Hertzgaard), but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t guilty and he got away with it for political reasons. We’ll see what happens with Trump.

While I’m not on team we got him, the difference between the Reagan administration and this one is immense. During his terms he was surrounded by competent people and fully staffed. tRUmp, on the other hand, is surrounded by a bunch of two-bit crooks in the zenith of their life with half the positions in government are still not filled.

Are you saying that you think if Reagan and Bush had done the things that Trump and Pence have done in relation to their public admitting of what they’ve done that they would have been got? I mean these people weren’t out in public claiming the crimes they were certainly involved in. Trump and Pence have done exactly that, and Pence was the bank robber. I don’t see any similarity to what happened in the 80s on that front.

We’ll see. In the end the political class basically gave Reagan a pass because they thought the political cost of going after him would be too high. It will be the same calculation here.

I seem to remember Reagan being pretty damn popular at the end, and also that Bush got elected to follow him (the deification of Reagan in modern times is sickening). Trump is extremely unpopular, and I think that Pence couldn’t get elected dog catcher in a one dog town anymore. We are in a totally different dynamic.
