Oh cool, another impeachable offense we can add to this giant pile of impeachable offenses that weā€™ve been sitting on for a year.

I havenā€™t had time to look this up, but do you know if the House has the ability to levy fines for contempt? That seems like the better play than criminal charges. Pile up fines against these people and then go after their assets.

Anyone whose ā€œthis will be fineā€ story includes ā€œand the the court will issue an orderā€ can be immediately ignored.

Congress has never fined anyone per this PDF examining Congressā€™s contempt powers but the real kicker is the limit they can fine people

Every person who having been summoned as a witness by the authority of either House
of Congress to give testimony or to produce papers upon any matter under inquiry before
either House, or any joint committee established by a joint or concurrent resolution of the
two Houses of Congress, or any committee of either House of Congress, willfully makes
default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question
under inquiry, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more
than $100,000
nor less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than
one month nor more than twelve months

That might get the lower level people to roll over but the billionaires in the cabinet dgaf.

Regarding Romney, it seems that if he 100% wanted Trump out of office and doesnā€™t care about actually being president himself, he could simply run as an independent candidate in 2020. I donā€™t think heā€™s anywhere near a lock to win the R primary, but I canā€™t see how those three candidates would not lead to a absurd electoral landslide for any D.

He would even keep his senate seat ala McCain in 2008. Heā€™s not up again for four years. He would infuriate some section of his base and donors, but lol its Utah and everyone will be long past it by 2024.

I know its quite a lot to speculate he doesnā€™t have the current ambition to be President, obviously, or that he has any desire to offer himself up as spoiler to a party heā€™s devoted his life to. Soā€¦ nonsensical wishthink?

Heā€™s just mashing buttons at this point, though Iā€™m sure heā€™d love to be able to run against Hillary again.

Narrator: But he didnā€™t get to run against Hillary again. And as many times as he told himself that Elizabeth Warren was just like Hillary that wasnā€™t true either. Pocahontas went on to win Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, and adding insult to very real injury Texas.

Above I noted that Sondland (or others) could resign and then testify, like Volker did. The better option would actually be to NOT resign and testify anyway, forcing Trump/Pompeo to fire them for not following orders. That would require that the witness actually wants to testify and has some balls, so itā€™s unlikely to happen.

Welp, off to Predictit.

I hate when republicans are right, but Rick Wilson is here. Democrats suck at the game of politics.
