No, I think this is way bigger than that, and way more telling.
Everyone, literally everyone, was 100% convinced that Trump would obstruct literally everything at literally every step. It is what he has always done. Itās why we still donāt have the full Mueller report, despite a subpoena. Releasing this memo, publicly, when everyone who reads it with any awareness at all knows itās a smoking gun, and when there is no court order to do so, is a complete reversal. One such reversal may be an oddity, maybe it was just one error in judgment about how exonerating it would be, but three times in a row is a pattern. Not only did Trump acquiesce to the Congressional request for the whistleblower report without a fight, heās now also declassifying it without a fight.
We poker players have a name for what I think this is, and it is tilt. Trump is on tilt. It took, well, Iām not sure if itās a while or not very long, perhaps thatās in the eye of the beholder, but Trump looks like the presidency has worn on him, and heās on tilt. Tilt is a lot of things to a lot of people. Sometimes itās aggressively raising everything when you have nothing, but this isnāt Trumpās tilt. Based on this brief pattern, Trumpās tilt looks to be one of two things. One, which may be most likely, is the tilt of a losing player whoās losing so now he is essentially playing bad and passive and trying to lose because losing is whatās supposed to happen and whatās going to happen and when the chips are gone heāll go home with no chips and all will be right in the world. Giving up this memo without a fight, and then the whistleblower report to Congress without a fight, and then declassifying it without a fight looks like a tilted poker player calling every bet with nothing because heās trying to lose.
The other sort of tilt this might be is just being totally irrational and detached from reality. Maybe heās totally lost it and genuinely thinks these are winning plays. That might be an explanation for releasing the memo, but we havenāt really gotten any rationale for conceding the whistleblower report to Congress and to the public without a fight. If there is some, no matter how wildly reaching, maybe itās this kind of tilt. If there is a return to aggression and obstruction, itās almost certainly this kind of tilt.
Now, I could be wrong. Maybe heāll just go back to a coherent, consistent pattern of obstruction, and these things were just a fluke, but man, like, even if Iām wrong, itāll probably be hard to see, because these three things that Iām going to go ahead and call massive mistakes if his goal is to get reelected and not get removed from office, these three things are so massive that even a reversal in strategy doesnāt look like itās enough, even if the declassified report tomorrow is half what itās being hyped to be.

Iām not sure Trump knows his goose is cooked, but Iām pretty sure his top advisers/Senate republicans know it. So the play now is to get him out as fast as possible to set someone else up for 2020, because itās getting late in the primary season and somebody is going to need to start campaigning in Iowa. LMAO at all the states that are trying to cancel their republican primariesā¦

Yea it must be really bad. They wouldnāt want Trump waking up to the report already being released and nuking Japan or some random country in anger. Theyāll probably release it after breakfast or something.

This is an underemphasized point that Yglesias makes, which is being lost in the hubbub. Whatās taking Trump down is that there are genuine, mostly quiet, Russia hawks in the senate who view Russiaās actions very seriously and want to push back.

Pretty much the only vetos that have been overturned and the only bills passed over Trumpās objections have been those dealing with Russia sanctions. I have to beleive that a number of GOP senators have told Trump not to go easy on Russia and not to mess too much with sanctions, and the motherfucker just ignores them.
Itās noteworthy that the only thing that really seems to have personally riled CocaineMitch is being referred to as MoscowMitch. I mean some of the old republicans in the senate are life long cold warriors. They want Putin punished for Ukraine. Really, there have to have been at least 20 GOP senators who have communicated this to Trump in one way or another, but he and his advisors are too damn stupid to get it. They tell him: you can fuck everything in the house, the dog, the bird, the couch, shit on congress, illegally misappropriate funds, but stay away from the cat. And yet, heās a stupid catfucker.
