Dem supporters aren’t going to let that shit away them, if Warren is out there pounding the table for popular leftwing policies, just as Trump supporters aren’t abandoning him so long as he keeps pumping the racism and owning the libs.
In the 1970s a candidate for POTUS negotiated better peace terms to the North Vietnamese if they waited until after the election and then he went on to more or less openly conduct illegal bombing of Cambodia and Laos.* In the 1980s a candidate for POTUS made a deal with the Iranians who held Americans hostage who released hostages on the very day he was inaugurated and he went on to more or less openly conduct illegal wars (explicitly prohibited by congress) in Central America. Both these candidates won and won re-election.
Because in general potential Trump voters are too far gone as human beings to be bothered by minor trifles like racism and law-breaking and are energised by him owning the libs (and will turn out whatever), but potential Warren voters aren’t stimulated by embarrassing PR stunts and may find these obvious attempts at image manipulation a huge turn off.
Reagan broke US laws. The US passed a law specifically prohibiting funding the Contras. Nixon’s war in Cambodia and Laos was illegal under US law as well. Nixon broke US laws negotiating with the North Vietnamese before the election. Maybe just foreign policy vs domestic, but still US laws.
This is the only silver lining to the story for me tbh. I’m not rustled at all by Biden soaking the first round of dirty tricks from Trump. Maybe it’ll even go so badly for Trump that it impedes his ability to do it next time.
And LOL at the ‘deep state’. The fact that DJT still draws breath is proof that there is no deep state and there never was one. Any real deep state would have held him down and injected him with heart attack juice sometime in 2017 when they realized that he couldn’t be controlled.
No, we wouldn’t be expected for Trump supporters to mind the racism/racist policies, that’s what they like! That fires them up, just like the illegal things he’s doing fire them up, they are largely fascists or deeply admire authoritarianism. It doesn’t matter what “missteps” Trump makes, as long as he keeps mashing those buttons. He doesnt spend his time worrying about avoiding nit picky bs imaging issues. Warren shouldn’t either. If she keeps preaching M4A and other things the left wants, none of us are going to care about a fucking dna test or some other minor thing that pundits will play up as a misstep just so they have something exciting to talk about.
The 2004 Ohio results were also extremely suspicious. It’s quite possible that Democrats have won every election since 1988, yet we are governed by the right-wing oligarchy.
