Why would it have two? I don’t think a “lian” ending ever involves doubling the l - think Mongolian, mammalian, Hegelian for instance. Nor do other tacked-on endings double the l - for instance “ity”, civility, sexuality, morality, vitality etc etc. (The adverb, i.e. “civilly”, is the exception).

What they say is true - that SA has bought billions of US weapons, but they are so ineffective they can’t even hold their own against starving, isolated rebels armed with whatever they can order off of amazon. However, I’m not sure the US or SA is really worried about that. It’s always been clear that SA buys US weapons as quid pro quo, not to construct an effective army, and the US defence industry has known that cheap tech can effectively combat it for a long time too. Its love of expensive stuff is also primarily an economic one, rather than being about military excellence.
I think the US regime is blaming Iran because that’s what it’s been doing for a while now, and is part of their ‘maximum pressure’ campaign that predated Bolton and will presumably continue. I don’t get it, but they seem sincere about it. Seeing the Houthi as solely Iran’s proxy is a misreading of a civil war that started without any Iranian involvement and which is physically isolated from Iran, so they simply don’t have much opportunity to really get involved. But there is contact and support, so when a few photos on twitter of serial numbers is enough to ‘prove’ something, it will always happen.
I think the article shows what Russia is hoping for out of this, that SA is forced to move towards Russia in order to extract itself from Yemen. What’s been happening there in the last few weeks has been, following the UAE supposedly withdrawing, an escalation of clashes between (very broadly speaking) UAE supported and SA supported forces. The former took Aden a few weeks back, and are (again, very broadly) is favour of South Yemeni independence, rather than reunification under the President SA has under house arrest. It seems that soon SA won’t even have any worthwhile proxies to support in Yemen, along with a conflict it wasn’t even doing well in anyway. Even a muppet like MBS must start looking for an exit soon.
Which connects to Trump’s language about deferring to SA. I don’t think SA wants a war with Iran at the moment. I think that’s a relatively new thing, but, fingers crossed.

It’s a threat. They’re saying we may not have a nuke but we can make war nearly as costly as if we did. Maybe they figure that the only thing a bully understands is force.
