You are correct that he should be impeached for it along with dozens of other things. You are likely incorrect in your belief that he will be impeached.
Itâs a fun way to make the point about how ridiculous youâre being. Of course what theyâre doing is a strategy, and not at all normal, and something should happen about it.
But of course nothing will, no matter how much you wishcast about impeachment.
I think itâs also worth noting that, while impeachment is probably the morally right thing to do, itâs not the politically smart thing to do. If the House impeaches, the Senate controls the trial. Itâs not going to be a parade of evidence/testimony thatâs going to cause light bulbs to go off for average voters about what a terrible president Trump is. Instead, Mitch is going to say LOL trial, move for an immediate vote that will fail to convict, and Trump will be able to say throughout the entire 2020 campaign that Congress has conclusively shown him to be not guilty of any impeachable offenses.
Like, that sucks, but Iâm pretty sure that Trump is the one who benefits from the House initiating impeachment right now, as opposed to carrying out investigations and hearings for the next 14 months.
I disagree on the strategy, and the House would be able to hold weeks of hearings after opening an impeachment inquiry and before voting on Articles of Impeachment, so theyâd be able to create the type of coverage of evidence/testimony that they want.
JT, you are quite possibly the biggest pessimist on here. Donât take your cues from cuse, take them from me. Youâll end up happier even if Iâm wrong. This kind of take is like the people who think theyâre going to lose their jobs in an economic downturn but never do, while they make everyone else fear whatâs going to happen for months to years before anything does.

You need to tell me what you mean by impeached. Iâm not saying anything about conviction. Thatâs not going to happen based on the Senate, but their lack of a vote for it needs to be hung around their necks for election season, Republican or Democrat.
I absolutely believe several Articles of Impeachment will be introduced in the full House that will be voted on and passed by January. If Iâm wrong, Iâm wrong, but thatâs my statement and Iâm sticking to it.
Thatâs fair. Iâll modify my point slightly to say that any strategy that ends with impeachment moving to the Senate before 11/1/2020 is a strategic mistake.
Wat? Mitch will 100% say we absolutely do impeachment trials. There will be no evidence, no testimony, just a straight vote.
When I say impeach I mean the House vote. Right now I have it about 30% the House votes on articles of impeachment. 0% chance Trump is found guilty and removed from office.

Maybe this âstrategyâ will mean something to you. Letâs say the House does nothing on impeachment. During the period of the general election Trump says, âyou see, they didnât think I did anything wrong, and you know theyâd try to get me if they didâ.
It then sets the precedent that there is no standard for law and order in this country, that certain people absolutely are above the law, and that you shouldnât feel bad about any damn thing youâd do in office forever. How would you ever get a corruption conviction in a court if no one does anything?
If nothing happens out of the filing of Articles of Impeachment (that will come after at least a few months of hearings happen first), thatâs fine, they tried. If they do nothing, and he wins, it will be corruption on a scale you canât even imagine, especially if the GOP wins back the House and keeps the Senate.
Iâm sure you live a nice insulated life, and are very much in touch with the Pelosi/Schumer types in the party, but I think your strategy is awful. The âstrategyâ according to Nadler and Schiff is to get this done by the end of the year (Schiff said âJustice delayed is justice deniedâ). Why you would possibly want investigations going through the election in 2020 is just absolutely mind numbing to me. That will do nothing. Jurors get very mad at long trials, and youâre advocating a 14 month one. The voters are the jurors, and they for sure will have tuned out by then.
No, see thatâs different because the Constitution says that SC justices are appointed âby and with the Advice and Consent of the Senateâ so itâs totally within Moscow Mitchâs power to deny said consent.
On Impeachment, the olâ Constitution says âThe Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmationâ so the Republicans would have to lie while taking a solemn oath to be able to just do nothing, and we know that honor and integrity are very important values to the GOP.
