White House insists Trump not having second thoughts on China trade war
Asked he is rethinking tariffs, president says: ‘Sure. Why not?’
Press secretary: Trump regrets not raising tariffs higher

Donald Trump admitted on Sunday to having second thoughts about raising tariffs against China, spark brief hopes of a possible truce in the trans-Pacific trade war. But his spokeswoman later insisted the only regret the president had was not imposing even greater tariffs.

It appeared to be the latest incident in a White House pattern, in which Trump appears to say something conciliatory in public, only for the olive branch to be snatched back later by officials.

At a breakfast meeting with the British prime minister, Boris Johnson, Trump was asked if he was rethinking his decision to escalate tariffs against China.

He replied: “Yeah, sure. Why not?”
White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, however, said the president’s “answer has been greatly misinterpreted.

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, has floated a plan at the G7 summit to defuse rising tensions in the Gulf by partially lifting the US oil embargo on Iran in exchange for Tehran’s return to full compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement restricting the country’s nuclear programme.

Donald Trump was noncommittal about the plan. Asked for his reaction at the summit at the French Atlantic resort of Biarritz, the president said he had not discussed the proposal with Macron, contradicting a statement from the ÉlysĂ©e that the G7 had agreed to support a French diplomatic initiative.

Such a missed opportunity on a one time

Sean Connery
Actor

I like women. I don’t understand them, but I like them.
I have always hated that damn James Bond. I’d like to kill him.
There are women who take it to the wire. That’s what they are looking for, the ultimate confrontation. They want a smack.
Laughter kills fear, and without fear there can be no faith. For without fear of the devil there is no need for God.
There is nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in man.

To be fair Sean had some good quotes

On Scotland:

“Everything I have done or attempted to do for Scotland has always been for her benefit, never my own and I defy anyone to prove otherwise.”

“I’ve always been hopeful about Scotland’s prospects. And I now believe more than ever that Scotland is within touching distance of achieving independence and equality.”

“I am not an Englishman, I was never an Englishman, and I don’t ever want to be one. I am a Scotsman! I was a Scotsman and I will always be one.”

“Scotland should be nothing less than equal with all the other nations of the world.”

David Henig, the UK director of the European Centre For International Political Economy, said the US “would be loathe” to get rid of the barriers intended to protect US producers.

He added: "The US is quite protectionist - the US have never done a trade deal the likes of which Mr Johnson is describing.

"The question is whether the US is prepared to give the UK something and what we would have to give them in return.

“It is less clear what Trump wants in terms of trade altogether.”

In June, Mr Trump made comments that the NHS “was on the table” in US-UK trade deal - but later rowed back on his remarks.

At the G7 summit Mr Johnson was asked if he had made it clear the NHS was not on the table.

He replied: “Not only have I made clear of that, the president has made that very, very clear. There is complete unanimity on that point.”

I actually believe them this time. He wouldn’t say “yeah sure, why not” to rethinking it.

I think he thought the question was about escalating them higher and then his “yeah sure, why not” answer makes sense

Nailed it that he would do this. Rasmussen had him at 44 percent on Tuesday or Wednesday, but they kept polling and posted a new one at 50 percent on Friday. The little sycophants that could (get their name back on an approval rating photo).

Yeah, I mean that never happened, unless it was a series of people who are hoping he will help them torture and murder people or something.
