Indeed. The presidency in the modern era is about what you project, not reality.
But the difference is that Trump understands only a cursory effort at anything is required. Giving the base something to hammer home as their reality is always key, no matter how flimsily constructed the evidence is.
Contrast with Obama. He left a lot to be desired, but he was a supremely competent administrator. This led to the right endlessly dissecting his every perceived mistake.
It’s far better to just refuse to play the game in good faith; ignore transparency and governance and focus entirely on messaging. In a sense, it’s the maximum logical extension of the Republican ethos.

They admitted he was on O2 at the White House, they claim he didn’t want it and it was only for an hour.

The doctor was asked why he covered up on the O2 use yesterday and he said he was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude of the team and the president and his illness, and thus hid it.

This doctor is terrible at dealing with the press questions in a non-confusing, non-contradictory way.
That being said, it sounds like he is going to get through this with no major complications, which will just lead to him resuming rally’s and pushing hard for OFB since this isnt any worse than a flu “Look, I’m a 74 year old man and got through this just fine. Everybody will just have to take their chances to get he economy back up and running.”
