The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode XIV: T-minus 97 Hours

You know what I keep thinking about today, is even at my mid sized company that barely anyone has even heard of, every single workstation automatically goes into screen lock after 5 mins of inactivity (and then you have 2FA). And you cannot change this setting. It’s super obnoxious but done for security reasons.

The fucking highest levels of federal govt dont do anything like that? Looooool.

DAMN video on msnbc when they were rushing inside of the building and police getting just run over, what a joke

So what do we make of Pence calling in the National Guard and not Trump? Isn’t the chain of command taken seriously?

I dont think thats a strategic comment, its pure instinct for conservatives to bleat “NO YOU” when you point out their awfulness. The terrorism is Beto’s fault the same way that liberals are the real racists for constantly bringing up race.

Great job Zuck, A+

When there’s a serious President the chain if command is taken seriously.

It may be a bit too strategic for Trump, but maybe he wanted them called in, but not to have his name on it. I don’t know how these things work — can Pence call them in if Trump privately authorises him to?

Did you forget to switch to your SweetSummerGirl account before posting this?

So, seriously now -

What the fuck happens going forward in America? I don’t think we come back from this. Do we descend into legit red/blue civil war from here? Do the MAGA folks just burn out their energy eventually and just deal with the country not speeding towards their white power dreams?

I have an 8 year old daughter and as much as I enjoy slurping the right wing tears, I’m a little worried about the future. There’s a pretty big protest happening 2 miles from me at the WA state capitol…

I had Kevin Cramer the ND Senator acting tough in a place in MN once and I was high af so not wanting to be confrontational. I finally had to ask him if he had a problem and then he shut up. I realized a year later it was him. God damned missed opportunity.

I’ve been trying to follow this all while working, but I think I heard the DC Mayor say she requested the assistance. I’m no expert on whether you can just ask other state/municipal police forces to come in and patrol your streets.

My wife desperately wants to move to Ireland and I’m having a hard time coming up with a reason not to.

Have you been there? The weather is straight out of hell. I think there’s like 4 days of sunlight a year.

Here’s my attempt at Cliff’s for the day:

Trump started speaking around 11 to thousands. Played all the hits, “will never concede,” “it’s time to fight,” etc. Went on for about 2 hours.

At 1 Pence started opening envelopes and reading electors. Going alphabetically, he got to Arizona, asked for objections, and got one. He formally called for the houses to debate.

Meanwhile the crowd marches from the ellipse, where Trump’s speech was, to the Capitol.

Ted Cruz gave his snivelling version of how he’s just standing up for the people who have questions.

Somewhat surprisingly, Mitch went the other way, upheld certification, and generally rebuked Trump.

Around this point, the barricades were breached and terrorists stormed the Capitol, and all hell breaks loose. Elected officials were safely evacuated, but they broke a window and got in, and there are all kinds of photos of people impudently traipsing all over the chamber, stealing stuff, and hanging Nazi/Confederate flags, etc.

Mayor sets a 6 pm curfew.

At least one person, presumably a rioter, got shot and is dead.

Trump sent out two tweets mildly rebuking violence and backing the blue.

Biden goes live, condemns the chaos, and chastens Trump to step up. Then some unnecessary fluff about what America can accomplish, together.

Within minutes, Trump tweets a 1 minute video where he acknowledges in the first 7 seconds that everyone knows the election was stolen, but everyone needs to go home.

Some chatter that Trump might be impeached.

That’s the gist of it.

Spend next week in Seattle and see how you like it…

You’d probably have to say “sorry, I didn’t understand what you said” a lot.
