This is just objectively wrong. The economic impact might be beyond containment, but a better job of slowing down the rate of the spread and keeping the demand on health care from overwhelming hospitals would greatly reduce the number dying. The body count alone will be higher because of Trump’s incompetence and that cannot be blamed on China. China didn’t pick the worst person in the country to be President, Americans did that.
Okay, 1.5 million deaths and a Great Depression on the Chinese. And 1/2 million deaths on Trump. The Chinese still did a prettay, prettay, prettay bad thing to us.
Intent matters. Shit happens
No you’ve got it wrong - it’s not China’s fault (ie the government), it’s THE CHINESE.
I admire your instinct to chase down root causes. That’s a smart way to analyze situations. But in this case it is absolutely critical that Trump not get any kind of pass. He was literally told on transition from Obama to his administration that a huge risk to homeland security was a flu pandemic in the absence of a vaccine. He then proceeded to dismantle the federal public health team in charge of pandemic response. It’s inexcusable and on par with dictators killing their own civilians for political reasons. Don’t give him cover by promoting narratives that this is Chinas fault.
If SARS, the swine flu, etc never happened then you might have a point. But they did. The Chinese government knew they were going to keep unleashing viruses on the rest of the world but they didn’t care. And I don’t believe that a government that locked up millions of Muslims for no reason didn’t have the power to stop the practices that led to this. And then on top of that they lied long enough to have the rest of the world keep their defenses down until it was too late.
Jalfareezi I agree that the Chinese government did this. If you think Trump should clarify that he means the Chinese government and that Chinese people are great, then I agree.
Doesn’t matter what you believe, it is not the time for Trump to be calling it the Chinese Virus. There is zero upside and massive downside right now. Plus it is childish.
But it is China’s fault… what % of people do you expect to care when our death rate is like X% higher “because of Trump” when the end result was always going to be utter devastation? And Trump will be able to point to devastated countries that took more precautions to prove it.
And I guess a thing to add is given these facts, you are walking into a suicide trap politically defending the Chinese government at all when they obviously deserve most of the blame. Correct response is yes, obviously the Chinese government is mostly to blame but Trump made it worse.
I don’t disagree with that but I’m not providing any defense of China. Trumps response has to be judged against the hand he was dealt, not some hypothetical. And judges against reality Trump should be shamed and jailed for this.
No I don’t agree, for reasons I stated before:
You need to be far more nuanced in matters of nationality and culture if you don’t want to be mistaken for a Trumpkin.
If the Chinese have a problem with Trump, they should have their hackers try to sway the election against him.
Apparently the Spanish flu originated in Kansas.

It never ceases to impress me how well the GOP can pick a message (“Chinese Flu!”) and have everyone from the potus on down stick to it like super glue
They quite literally didn’t do anything TO us.
You my friend are wrong, we the west have always known about disease that kills whole populations after you decimated the Indians of America then you bastards built planes and carried the Corona Virus around the world all knowing about the Chinese markets… How irresponsible of YOU.
BASTARDS.
Meanwhile the democrats can not agree if it is night or day, regardless of it being night or day.
Agreed, South America, if that is who you are referring to, should blame the US for spreading it them.
It’s easy for them because the message is always barely coded racism. For “Chinese Flu”, they didn’t even have to look at the talking points. That’s one they arrive at independently.
