Mid-May, Trump had actually taken a short-lived lead in a string of polls. Biden is probably in better shape than she was.
Plus, I think the national media just likes Biden more than Clinton and are less likely to do things that hurt him. And they no longer assume that there is no way that Trump can win, so they are going to feel less free to go after Biden without more justification.
