Surly everyone knows the rice and chess board story, no?
This was how I learned it
The example I gave before in the 2+2 thread was: you start out with a pond and one lily pad in the pond. Every day the lily pad population doubles, and in 60 days the pond is full. How many days did it take to cover 50% of the pond?
Yeah I heard that on the Phil Ferguson podcast (weird blend of personal finance and atheism). It’s good but even that is over the head of most people.
Most Trump voters, you mean? I’m pretty sure most 8 year olds get it once told the answer.
That’s the one, yes.
But what if you started with 2 pennies, bro? What then? Or what if one person did their month of doubling 6 months before you?
What if it was Iraqi Dinar and they revalued?
What then smart guy?
It was 99,999 pennies, tho. Gotcha, libtard!
I just busted all my tourneys so tried to figure out roughly how this would come out for funsies. 2^30 * 10^-2 is the exact answer, I think, and if we take log base ten of two to be about .3, round it up to 1/3, we have 10^10 * 10^-2, or a number with 8 zeros, give or take. Close?
Seems a whole lot easier to just do what I described. A penny on Day 1 is $5,368,709.12 on Day 30.
Fuck, I was 2 whole zeroes out! That’s Trump incompetence territory.
Erm, I think you missed a an “=”
Your number is 2^29 * 10^-2, google it man.
So, I was 1 zero out
You double the initial penny on Day 2, not Day 1.

Alright, damnit. I was wrong. Past my bed time!
I was wrong initially when I said hit the equals key 30 times, which is one too high. So we can both own up to nitty errors.
Yeah we did the start with a penny and double it thing in like 2nd grade and I’ve gotten it ever since. Bahbah still baffled.
OMG, I just checked back in the 2+2 thread. This dude is legit mentally handicapped, right?
