I sort of remember it, though I was still so deeply brainwashed at the point where it would have been true. My earliest recollection of a kind of bygone era for the GOP is when one of my much older siblings flipped from die on a hill Republican to voting for Obama in 08. He is fiercely intelligent, so I felt comfortable asking him why he switched. He said something like,“There’s no intellectually honest way for me to continue supporting the GOP.” He was willing to compromise a bunch of assumed policy disagreements when it became clear to him which side was having an honest disagreement.

In times like these, I have to remind myself that we are voting for an entire administration and not just the person at the top. I think the cast of characters surrounding Biden will be significantly better than what’s left of the loyal Trumpkin administrators.
Meantime, part of me wonders whether Trumpkins, once they start to really feel the pain of the oncoming depression, will really believe that Trump has a solid chance to lead them out of the abyss. This is happening far enough in advance of the election for them to get a good sample of what likely will be a hopelessly bungled federal response. Couple that with my belief that Republicans are generally happier whining about Democratic rule than actually governing themselves, and I can picture Biden winning easily.

That is weird about rogan’s comment though. As he even said we would be relying on Biden’s cabinet.
I’m not even sure Biden himself would manage to serve a full term. VP choice seems a lot bigger than normal to me.
Rogan would he the type to assume the Great Man model of leadership, where success and failure all flows from the chief.

I know it’s out of context, but Joe Rogan is going to get us all killed. The number of people who believe him over any actual journalistic source is easily in the 10s of millions.
Does Biden suck? Yes. Would Biden have handled this pandemic infinitely better just by getting out of the way and letting experts call the shots? Yes.

That’s the part that bothered me, even granting Biden is dumber and more senile than Trump, Biden would have a competent cabinet. Trump has… Jared. It’s incredible how Trump constantly gets the benefit of of everyone comparing his opponents to some make-believe standard of competence without getting compared to that same standard. It’s a fucking superpower.

Dementia Joe does not have a cabinet, he needs to assemble one w/o the benefit of having a functioning brain and then get them through a transition process that is extremely difficult for even the sharpest of President.
In the battle of dumbasses trying to manage a global pandemic, incumbency is a big advantage.
This analysis makes me wonder if a military coup is a firewall against a second term for Trump. Am I crazy to think that?

Ironically he pontificates regularly on how we should not have a single person in charge of three hundred million.
He contradicts himself a lot.
Yesterday, at the presser, trump seemed to be trying to blame Crozier for letting sailors ashore in Vietnam, of course no one followed up with “had the Pentagon recommended against shore leave?”.
It reminds me of how all the cops and firefighters stopped supporting Trump because they keep getting effed over on their 9/11 health problems.
