Not really, but thatās the āneutral at worstā part. If he just didnāt want to get himself killed then good for him. There was no noble calling to accept conscription into the Imperial Army.

In the US? Revolutionary War I guess, Civil War on the Union Side, didnāt the British start the War of 1812? Grenadians are actually glad we invaded. Serbia pretty complicated and not really a war (for us), but maybe. WWII of course.

My point is simple, if a person choose not to join for ethical reasons then surely that should be commended, but I think we can be fairly sure that was not likely the case for Grandpa Fred any more than for #45. One should only be afforded moral highground if morality not rationality is their motive for avoiding the service.

Loads of resistance fights over the centuries that I wouldnāt have a problem with. Also, WWII way more of a normal war for the people involved than we can quite get our heads round now, I suspect.
