Somehow the right is simultaneously arguing:
1)Donald shut the borders down super early because he took this super seriously and saved lives AND
2)No one could see this coming. This is unprecedented and no one would have thought to be producing masks, tests and ventilators before now.

You arenāt wrong. The fact social media is full of people parroting these two points is proof it works. Itās infuriating which like you said is partially the point.
Yeah it works, weāve known it works for 100 years now. Yeah itās also infuriating. Tbf government here has always done some of this, just not to the fully Soviet degree we see now.
A lot more Orwell and Chomsky needs to be required reading in school if we are going to inoculate future generations against this.
Itās clear that education needs to be completely rethought for the post-internet world. When I was a kid the model of school was āhereās a bunch of facts that you should accept at face value, plus a sprinkling of problem solving skills for the smart kidsā. We donāt really need school to act as a conduit of information anymore because kids are absorbing content 24/7. School should really change to training people how to critically assess the quality of information.

Future generations arenāt going to be smart enough to recognizes the BS. The way to inoculate them is to craft a counter-narrative and indoctrinate them first. You canāt let facts get in the way of doing that.

Yeah. Exactly. Iām still trying to wrap my head around how an automaker is supposed to be able to convert equipment and understand the complex design of ventilators. Truth is, even the cars they make arenāt that great. I have virtually no faith that they can mass produce ventilators in a timely fashion.

UK car manufacturers are already making them or at least have already been ordered to make them/
