We also always had customs and border patrol, but it did make a difference that the Department of Homeland Security was created and is now the second biggest department, behind the war department and ahead of the prison department.

You know we also kept immigrants in jail before Trump? I guess a new Department called the persecution of immigrants Department would be no problem.
It wasn’t that serious a post because I don’t think the Space Force is ever going to actually exist because it involves more work than just signing an EO and holding it up like a dumbass. Either way, billions of dollars in black ops money is being rocketed to space every year regardless of what the agencies are called.
We had treaties to keep weapons of mass destruction out of space which we probably have observed so far. We also were on a path that greatly reduced the number of nuclear weapons in the world. This has all changed because both parties are s***. Both parties want this because of some combination of corruption and whipping up fear to get votes and the voters for both parties just accept that it is fine if not necessary.
The space force is not a joke or an executive order, it’s something that’s authorized in the current War bill. And both parties are making this happen. And the voters for both parties are fine with it. In all things that really matter there’s barely a difference between the Democrats and Trump. When President Biden starts bombing Yemen the Democrats will be talking about how dangerous the Houthi are. And when he continues separating children they’ll just talk about how MS-13 is really kind of dangerous and we have to have some controls on the border oh, well really they’ll just bury their heads in the sand and pay no attention to it.
Having a Space Force is not a terrible idea unless you think having a military is a terrible idea. The American military could certainly be scaled way back but that’s a separate discussion from the structure. Whether we want America to be the country dominating space is also a reasonable discussion to have.
It would be nice to believe we could keep space as neutral ground but it can’t be unless we eliminate international conflict in all forms first. Controlling space has huge tactical value. The only way we can even pretend it’s neutral ground now is because we already dominate it. If a nation hostile to the US gets to the point where they could challenge us for it, no neutrality agreements will stop them.
Also already mentioned, but the Space Force is happening. It’s structure was planned way before Trump. The executive order to create it was all he needed to do to put the plans into effect. His incompetence isn’t going to prevent it from becoming a reality.
