They’ll have to go to the fallback of just asking trump and he’ll tell them.

Seems like a tactical win thrown to the GOP to me? Striking it down prior to the election is a disaster outcome for them whereas the other scenarios are probably close to a wash.

I cannot even try to follow the logic of Moscow Mitch’s opening statement because he’s conditioned me to presume he’s totally full of shit.

Anyone falling for the Collins/Mittens/Murkowski concerned and troubled routine at this point is an absolute stone cold moron.

Rmoney might vote woth the Ds just because he can, but otherwise this is going nowhere

In a normal world they’d let one or two endangered senators vote for evidence so that it doesn’t pass and they can say they tried.

But in Trump’s party he must have absolute fealty. He must be able to tweet out 53-0.

Good. Hopefully Collins eats shit because of it come voting time

in the R world, voting against trump makes you an endangered senator.

Even a guy like Mittens, since he isn’t up for another 5 years and utah isn’t that trumpy but nobody actually likes Mittens either already.

her, mcsally, tillis, gardner

There’s 4. Though that only gets you to 50-50. (losing Jones)

Weird how there’s such a strong disconnect where Trump’s (and team WH) seems to be worried there’s going to be witnesses and need to do executive privilege which I don’t know how that’s a thing in a congressional impeachment trial and we’re all assuming that vote is immediately going “lol no”.

Jones isnt 100% a gonner, especially if Moore gets the nod

Moore is very low polling vs sessions/tuberville/byrne.

That said race is at least, only lean R. His polls even vs sessions aren’t dire or anything, just probably losing.

Jones is fucked.

People aren’t going to check the box for Trump and then check it for the Democratic senator. The only reason Jones won in the first place is because it was a standalone special election.

FTFY. Jones’ margin of victory was slightly smaller than the number of write in votes that surely would have gone to an R if it wasn’t Roy Moore. If “Big” Luther Strange had beaten Moore in the Republican runoff Jones would’ve lost by at least 20%.

You’re not wrong, but what I said is true as well.

Jones need both:
A) Roy Moore as an opponent.
B) A special election.

Jones would lose to Roy Moore in 2020. Yes, he will lose by a larger margin if the opponent is someone else. But he’s fucked either way.

Straight up calls McConnell a liar. Nice.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on Leader McConnell’s resolution on rules for the impeachment trial of the President, which will operate on a greatly compressed schedule and rejects the need for witnesses and documents:

“Leader McConnell’s plan for a dark of night impeachment trial confirms what the American people have seen since Day One: the Senate GOP Leader has chosen a cover-up for the President, rather than honor his oath to the Constitution. Shamefully, this sham proposal does not even allow for admitting the House record into evidence at the trial.

“Leader McConnell’s process is deliberately designed to hide the truth from the Senate and from the American people, because he knows that the President’s wrongdoing is indefensible and demands removal. No jury would be asked to operate on McConnell’s absurdly compressed schedule, and it is obvious that no Senator who votes for it is intending to truly weigh the damning evidence of the President’s attacks on our Constitution.

“The public now knows why Leader McConnell has been hiding his resolution: the Clinton comparison was a lie. Clearly and sadly, Leader McConnell has misled the American people. For weeks, he has insisted that he will adhere to the rules used during the Clinton impeachment trial and that ‘fair is fair’ – but his proposal rejects the need for witnesses and documents during the trial itself. In contrast, for the Clinton trial, witnesses were deposed and the President provided more than 90,000 documents.

“President Trump undermined our national security, jeopardized the integrity of our elections and violated the Constitution all for his own personal, political gain. He has repeatedly said that he would do so again. Duty, honor and country are at stake. Every Senator who supports this sham process must be held accountable to the American people.”

If I recall correctly, Clinton’s impeachment trial followed a similar process. 24 hours each to argue for/against conviction, and then the Senate agreed to depose witnesses rather than bring them onto the Senate floor.

The difference then was that there was no new information to bring forward. Senators were aghast at the thought of bringing Monica Lewinsky into the trial to talk about BJs and adultery. There was nothing new to learn, so they imo were rightful to see that as turning into a circus.

But here, no one has received testimony from four key witnesses. To not even hear from them would be ridiculous.

keep impeaching him, nancy. he’s obviously a tax cheat. READ THE NEW YORK TIMES!
