Being consistent on this stuff is absolutely NOT part of their strategy. Quite the contrary - they will intentionally maintain two contradictory “realities”. One is a hardline reality, designed for consumption by their true believers. The other is a softened reality, designed for consumption by gullible mainstream news organizations. The inconsistencies don’t cost them anything.
