I should say it doesn’t matter because we’ve know that tax cuts don’t pay for themselves. The people that push that shit are never doing it in good faith, or they won’t listen because to them it’s not about policy that is good for society, it’s about justifying things that are good for them personally.

Except you have fuckwad Chuck Todd and his army of both sides assholes leading with “GOP says tax cuts will pay for themselves, Dems disagree, here to talk about it Paul Krugman and a random GOP hack being bribed by the Koch Brothers.”

Charles Payne’s glasses put me on lifetilt.

Also why does he have to source basic information like that? Breaking news stonk market goes up over time.

He understands sales.

Like you wouldn’t tell your girl that your work went to shit every day, no you’re a bad ass who’s kicking ass and everything’s great and all time highs and shit.

Yeah, I agree. I guess my point is that we don’t need to be polite to the people who still talk about cutting taxes as stimulus. Oaks we need to put pressure on the media to stop the both sides bullshit, but that won’t change until we take the profit motive away from news media.

The whole “Trump is awesome for my stock portfolio” is incredibly effective advertising.

For those who don’t know any stock, they just think that stock market = economy and make that replacement in all of their political views.

50% of Americans have no stock at all.

I actually thought that number would be higher.

Not only that, but 84% of stocks are owned by the top 10%.

I would guess that even average idiots will take the free money offered by 401k matches.

A lot don’t because they can’t afford to save. My girlfriend works with several people at American Airlines who get around 5% match and contribute $0.

401k plans are yet another example of the tragedy of “choice.” Basically nobody is better off “choosing” in their 401k versus having a pension.

Retirement is the #1 thing that makes sense to socialize. Without it you have to save for what might be a long life, but will probably be an average life, but you could well die a year after you retire. Everyone saving for an average lifespan is better. The bigger the pool the better.

Don’t we already have this?

Social security is kind of a joke though. It barely keeps retirees above the poverty line. The only reason it hasn’t fallen apart is because millions of illegal immigrants pay into it despite not having the ability to collect on it. Instead, it’s retirees that get their money.

We do, and since I’m ready to live in a van down by the river it’ll work for me.

And it’s such an easy fix too. I don’t know why they don’t make the tax threshold higher. The fact that people only pay on like the first $150k of income is an absolute joke. And you know all these greedy rich folks are taking their $3k a month or whatever when they don’t need it.

And yeah 401(k)s are a joke. Just another corporate tax break framed as a benefit to workers. The Patriot Act episode on this was pretty damn good.

Just remember that a lot of this tax cuts paying their own freight fable is enabled and legitimized by hacks like Greg Mankiw churning out exciting right-wring catnip like dynamic scoring. It’s not even important that, by his own estimates, the best the tax cuts can do is recoup about 1/3rd of the lost revenue through “growth” (the CBO even offers this projection as the most optimistic result). The spinsters know they only need an element of truth to sell the bridge, so an anarchodelusional Harvard economist writing the white papers is the perfect pawn.

But what happens when they use the pawn’s papers as fuel to burn the house down? He realizes he’s been played and defects to the other team, right?

Now, I’m no longer a Republican economist. I’m officially an independent, for two reasons.

First, the Republican Party has increasingly become the party of Donald Trump. Though I didn’t support Mr. Trump in the 2016 election, after he won, I hoped he would rise to the challenge. He has not.

Instead, his performance as president has confirmed my worst fears: trade wars, denial of climate change, huge budget deficits, attacks on the Federal Reserve, a chaotic White House, and betrayal of our allies abroad. Worse yet, Congressional Republicans have done little to check President Trump’s egregious behavior.

Second, as an unenrolled voter — as independents are formally called in Massachusetts — I can now vote in the Democratic primary.

I guess the silver lining is it’s never too late to realize how completely full of shit Milton Friedman was. Or is it?

Though many of the Democratic candidates seem better to me than Mr. Trump, the party is at a crossroads. I worry that populists like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are proposing to move the country too far in the direction of state control of the economy. Moreover, in doing so, they tempt those in the center and center right to hold their noses and vote for Mr. Trump’s re-election.

LOL. “Hi guys, I’m voting Democrat now, but only if we run Republican candidates.”

So whom to support? As an economist and a concerned citizen, here are four things I’m looking for in a candidate’s platform:

A Return to Freer Trade
Economic isolationism has been a hallmark of the Trump administration. Presidents used to defend free trade.

A Market-Based Approach to Climate Change
The consensus of scientists is that climate change is a serious threat. We need to respond but in a way that avoids rigid government regulation.

Incremental Healthcare Reform
As we consider ways to improve the health care system, we should remember that the system, while imperfect, works well for many people. “Medicare for all” is a radical step.

Embrace of Our Common Humanity and Shared Goals
But I fear that we may not find it from some of the Democrats, who have been demonizing the wealthy, as if success in a capitalist economy is shameful.

Just look at these fucking rats trying to sneak onto the USS Progress to change the bearings. We’re gonna have to start checking boarding passes because motherfuckers can scramble the dials on their own runaway ship all they want but leave your blood-stained hands off mine.

He’s not even brave enough to say that, he’s calling himself an “independent.” Fuck these assholes.
