One of the things I liked about Pittsburgh was Uncle Sam’s subs grilled cheesesteak with provolone, as god intended. Don’t even know if whiz was an option.
Cheesesteak is probably the most overrated sandwich in America.
It’s good but it’s bread, steak and whiz. That’s a joke of a sandwich.

I agree, something like that is screaming out for some acidity to round it out. If you add pickles or a vinegary hot sauce to a basic cheesesteak it would probably taste a million times better.

Agree. We’d do the same with the cheese steaks from Monkey Paw over in East Village SD. RIP Monkey Paw. That place had like 30+ rotating taps of all local brews.

Steak Escape is incredible. Might only be in Ohio though. They (unsuccessfully) tried expanding and I can only assume they are terrible business people because their product is incredible. This is partially confirmed by their terrible website and even worse promotional video.
I miss my steak sandwiches at the casino, the chief was top notch, as we say up here “A pure belter” of a sandwich.
