I use to say how dumb all those people were who spent thousands on their dogs medical stuff. Then I got a dog and he is the most spoiled mutt on earth and I am not sure I wouldn’t go broke trying to save him if he got sick.

At the vet for my dog getting a 2nd opinion. First one said they couldn’t express her anal glands because of scar tissue and want to put her under for surgery. She’s 15 with a heart condition and it would be extremely risky.
Hoping this new vet has other ideas. I’m a nervous wreck. I’ve had her for 14 years and love her so damn much.

Omg the vet was able to express the anal glands no problem. I’m so relieved. They said they just had to apply pressure.
Also pretty upset at my previous vet. They know how dangerous surgery is for my dog and they didn’t try other options or anything. Whatever, got a new vet now!

Jakes salivary gland issue got a surgical consult today.
We are on the wait and see plan. It’s been pretty minimal for about two weeks now. However if he does need the surgery it’s a $3k whopper.
Poppy is getting antsy with her confinement for her sore back. She wants to run out in the yard and survey her territory. She clearly wants to go for a walk. Two more weeks of bed rest. But it’s a great sign that it’s working and she is feeling better.

Holy crap. What happened?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t there. But my wife took him to a park near us where a bunch of dogs play in the AM, and he got in a scrape with a big dog (american staffordshire, I think), and the big dog threw him down and/or stepped on him and/or bit him hard on the leg. It happened in a flash and my wife didn’t see it well .
That’s scary. Hope it heals quickly and completely.
The Chihuahua seems to have determined she doesn’t need anymore bed rest. But the vet says two more weeks.

Poor puppy with a broken leg reminds me of a story from when I was little. I was about 4 and my fox terrier got hit by a car and hurt his leg. My parents ran a pub at the time. Eventually the leg healed and we would be playing outside with Jasper running around like crazy, no problems with his leg at all. Then we would walk into the public bar and Jasper would immediately start limping quite badly and one of the suckers would buy him a bag of chips because they felt sorry for him. Score!

I can delete if it bothers people. I was proving a point with some friends that decapitating your pet for money is psychotic
this whole post seems psychotic. You have friends who think decapitating a living thing for money is not psychotic? And to prove them wrong, you posed this question to a bunch of folks who are posting about how much they love their pets?

Shiba is cute. There’s one in my neighbourhood that tries to make friends with my giant dog that refuses to play nice. Little dude is so confused why he keeps getting barked at/peed on.

Look at these two faces. First time we’ve used a dog sitter when away overnight. They met the lady a couple of weeks ago. Are these “who the fuck are you faces?” Assume they will be best buds after two visits today and two tomorrow.

Welp. Doc said it’s Hemangiosarcoma. She’s acting healthy and happy and the doc didn’t see any sign or metastasis when she opened her up. But sounds like a nasty mfer. Chemo doesn’t seem worth it at all. Gonna give her some mushroom supplement that had promising results in a Penn study. But bleh.
Here she is being sweet Saturday.
