The Oscars and Emmys and Golden Globe discussion thread

Parasite was the last movie I saw in theaters. Feels like ten years ago.

Parasite and The Invisible Man for me. Both worthy of Oscars.

Parasite, definitely.

Didn’t Parasite win last year’s Oscars or did I dream that?

Yes, but it feels like 4 years ago and not 11 months ago.

I don’t mind if it repeats, actually. Back to back Oscars for Parasite.

I just automatically assumed Risky knows because he spends 135 hours a week watching films and TV. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Personal power rankings after Sound of Metal:

  1. One Night in Miami
  2. Sound of Metal
  3. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
  4. The Trial of the Chicago 7
  5. Mank
  6. Palm Springs
  7. Da 5 Bloods
  8. Pieces of a Woman

Oscar nominations are out.

Absolutely thrilled that Sound of Metal and Judas and the Black Messiah got so much love.

Also feel like I have to watch Hillbilly Elegy, since Glenn Close got an Oscar and a Razzie nomination for the same role.

Rhea Seehorn better win. She dominates everything she’s in, especially the stuff that’s not good lol

Here she is in a TERRIBLE sequel to one of the best movies ever made.

Here she is in an amazing episode of Twilight Zone during Jordan Peele’s two season run.

The fact that she’s nominated for a truly groundbreaking performance means they need to give it to her now instead of decades later as some sort of honorary spiritual amends.

Lol house of the dragon best drama series

Seriously tho if Jeremy Strong doesn’t win he’ll throw himself into the east river

She won’t unfortunately. Gotta figure Coolidge is odds on to repeat here

The Bear being categorized as a comedy is bizarre.

one of the podcasts about this (think it was The Town?) mentioned that the difference in categories at this point is essentially 30 minutes vs 60 minute programming. it fits for Barry too

Right like no hate for Coolidge but between the two I think Seehorn is miles above the former in range but unfortunately does not have as big a star. Maybe if she’d inhabited more fantasies of former male teenagers who are now studio executives. This is a tough business if you don’t find a role that somehow turns you into a brand people want to celebrate in weird situations for decades and decades.

Maybe twenty years from now, Seehorn will get her White Lotus
