Worst outcome with both Caps and Flyers picking up 2 points. They play each other so one will get to 89.

That means the wings need at least 90. They go up 4-1 and then get tied up to hang on for OT. They get a PP and cash in 41 sends in.

Hopefully Boston can keep a 4-2 lead on Pitt

Pit would be lurking at 86 hoping to pass 3 teams.

Basically, just need to win both games against Montreal and hope that Washington loses a point somewhere, which seems very possible. Not a horrible position to be in.

You’d think playoff scenarios would be easy with two games left, but the loser point brings so many extra permutations in play.

This is what I can piece together, but I think there are more scenarios involving the Pens and the regulation wins tiebreaker…

  • The Isles are in if they pick up one more point
  • The Caps are in if they win their last two games
  • The Pens are in if they win out and the Caps and Wings each lose once, and can even still steal third place in the Metro if they win out, the Isles lose to the Devils in regulation and the Caps lose once
  • The Flyers can only make it if they win, the Caps lose both remaining games with at least one in regulation, and the Wings only pick up two more points
  • The Wings are in if they win out and the Caps don’t, but need to pick up at least three points to even have a chance because they lose all tiebreakers (except in the unlikely scenario that they tie with only the Isles at 90 - that requires Detroit to split with the Habs with the loss going to OT, the Caps to win out, the Isles to lose both of their remaining games in regulation, and the Pens to lose to the Preds)

Wings have a back door. Win both and Isles lose both. Then the caps get 3rd in the division and the Wings get a wc.

I guess I dont understand the wild card, why cant the Wings catch the Pens or Caps since they are all tied. You saying they need at least a point makes me think they can only catch the Isles

Caps and flyers play each other tomorrow, so one of them is guaranteed to get to 89.

Wings lose regulation win tiebreak to both.

So wings have to get to at least 90. They can lose a tiebreak at 90 to either caps or pens. They win a tiebreak vs isles at 90 or 91

They lose tiebreak at 91 to caps.

Edit -islanders now have 92, they lock up 3rd in the metropolitan.

Problem is caps winning in regulation knocks flyers out. So wings aren’t going to have a desperate flyers team going against caps.

Yeah. They may fall just short. Although you never know. Hopefully Flyers will play with some pride, but they’ve sucked badly the last few weeks.

The results of the other games were all bad.

Pens play Isles who have nothing to play for now.

Caps play Flyers who have nothing to play for now.

Of course, Boston had positioning on the line and didn’t score, only 16 shots. Heck Boston can still slip down to 2nd in the Atlantic.

Minor miracle for flyers to beat caps. Gonna suck to get 91 points and not get in.

Flyers will have the tiebreaker over the Caps if they win in regulation. Just need the Pens and Wings to both lose in regulation.

Yes. And the flyers are actually alive by virtue of the 6th tiebreaker with the capitals. I thought I had seen they were out. Great news for the Wings.

Also, could easily see the scenario where the flyers pull the goalie in a tie game as their only path is to win in regulation.

Which of course could backfire on the Wings if Caps get an empty netter.

They need to change that tiebreaker rule. Absurd. Can’t have something that changes nature of the game in that way imo.

A single elimination play in game if teams are tied for the last spot should definetely be a thing.
