If Harris caught it off the turf, it was a short-hop, which is really damn hard to cleanly do with a football given all the ways it can bounce. There wasn’t time for any kind of normal hop.
Also he doesn’t even hesitate for a split second, which players will often do when the ball clearly hit the ground first.
So I’d bet a lot of money he got his hands on the ball first, then possibly it touched the ground, which today could still be called a catch, but back then might not have.
