The National Football League

Yes. Gruden was clearly the problem. Good decision.

LOL @ firing him at 5 AM. Just fire him after the game. Donā€™t make him get up at 4 AM for work.

LOL at the Redskins (or the Bengals, or the Raiders, or the Dolphins, or the Browns, and Iā€™m sure Iā€™m forgetting at least a couple) thinking they are one head coach away from greatness.

The problem is that the owners are awful and the organizations they run expel talent with great velocity. The Browns literally fired Bill Belichick. The problem isnā€™t the coachesā€¦ most head coaches are pretty good at their jobs. The problem is all the decisions being made by people who got their jobs from nepotism and other things not remotely related to football. If you want to win consistently you put football people with track records in charge of everything and keep your hands off.

But of course they donā€™t do that because they treat multibillion dollar businesses like luxury cars at the track or yachts. Super expensive toys.

You know how when a team wins a championship, they hand the trophy over to the owner? That has always been so odd to me. Itā€™s like, dude, you sign the checks. Thatā€™s it. Other than that, you are insignificant when it comes to the product on the field. The overnight security guard that opens the door at 3 AM for the head coach has a bigger impact.

Every single team I named the owner does way more than sign the checksā€¦ and it shows. These guys are making final choices about personnel and then blaming the head coach for not being able to win with the mess of a football team they hand him.

You wanna know one of the biggest reasons the Pats basically win every year? Bill makes all the football decisions. All of them. The team he fields is the one that big football brain told him was the best thing he could build out of the resources he had. And that has all kinds of synergies too. Brady has taken way less money than he could have because 1) he knows that he would look a lot worse not playing for Bill, 2) Bill will take that money he isnā€™t charging him and use it to make the team damn near unbeatable, and 3) heā€™s going to make way more money in endorsements and post career opportunities (some courtesy of the Kraft family who will absolutely make certain that he gets all that money back and then some) than heā€™s giving up to make the Patriots cap work.

All because everyone involved trusts Bill Belichick to make good decisions about football stuff. Which isnā€™t a surprise because I canā€™t actually recall the last time he made a really serious mistake, but I guarantee you that he does vividly. The owers of the aforementioned teams make bigger mistakes than Belichick has made in his entire football career on a quarterly basis. Of that Iā€™m quite certain.

What half-decent coach would even accept the skins job?

Too bad that Callahan was named interim HC, was hoping for Tomsula magic

Sounds like a feature to me.

This isnā€™t MNF from 20 years ago, the games are mostly nothing special. The fucking Dolphins are on in three weeks.

MNF from 20 years ago = SNF today.
