I know. It’s sad on multiple levels.
He had the final say on whether or not this ever saw the light of day, so it’s not too surprising.
I think there was less total tape then some think. They weren’t filming every practice and training session. For the space jam pickup games they apparently only filmed like 90 seconds of stuff.
I finally polished this off, very enjoyable for people that were fans at the time but with obvious flaws as a piece of film making. The best description I saw was that this is hagiography, not documentary, which is totally accurate.
Having said that for 1990s kids/teens/young adults like me (91–98 is my age 13 to 20 period, basically the peak of my life, lol) this is hook-it-directly-to-my-veins-please nostalgia.
Highlights for me from the last couple of episodes:
- Those mormon white peoples get out of control for Jazz basketball. Settle down, Karen.
- Antoine Carr!
- John Stockton was very good at basketball.
- Notwithstanding Karl Malone’s off court despicable behavior, it was quite cool of him to go on the bus after the final and congratulate the Bulls on winning. Quite a contrast with the earlier stuff about the Pistons.
Agree, and maybe I’m a huge nit, but Jordan didn’t even stand up to receive it.
Great article on how this thing finally got done.
I mean, if it wasn’t Grant then wtf was it? Jordan himself?
Phil Jackson has some pretty loose lips. He wrote a book on the ins and outs with Kobe.
Also, it was probably sourced a bit from everybody. You could see Buechler, Perdue, Wennington, etc were all talkers.
Jerry Sloan dead. Documentary claims another soul
One of the OG LeBatard looks likes:
Jerry Sloan looks like he washes his hair with a bar of soap
RIP
On ep3 and am wading back through this thread for elite commentary…
Referring to his early years, he says something like, “I wasn’t smoking, doing drugs, I wasn’t even drinking at the time.”
Nicholson sighting in ep4 when they win their first championship
Nicholson has a pathological need to insert himself into big events whenever possible. Like did with JLaw. Somehow Nicholson is more impressed with himself than the general public.
I’m not going to argue with that, but he’s also a huge Lakers fan. The guy stipulates in his movie contracts that he is guaranteed time off to attend a game if it happens during filming. Court side seats cost around $120k per person each season, and Jack buys TWO. I think this clip captured him offering his sincere congratulations at the Bulls defeating his favorite team.
Does Jack really pay for those seats? I assume famous people get those seats for free because they bring attention to the team.
That’s possible, but I think the evidence is there that he’s a true fan. Anyway, I’m not sure what we’re arguing about or why I took exception to Mike’s post
