I can’t really grow facial hair well, but at the urging of my son during the pandemic, I grew out my hair and facial hair during lockdowns and kept it going for oh, maybe a year. I looked like I was about to mail a manifesto to the country’s ten largest newspapers.
Never again.
Putting aside the surprising proportions of the beard/no beard populations, two things have become clear to me:
I imagine everyone as Kermit the frog. So far so good.

This is standard. I messes with me for a while when I see a podcaster I’ve only listened to.
This thread is now the spidermans pointing at each other meme but with beards.
I can’t count the times I’ve been told my voice sounds like Kermit the Frog.

Most beards start that way. After enough shaves and regrows, the patchiness goes away to what he has now.
But yeah I have a few awkward patchy beard pics out there from my 20s. Hope not to see them anytime soon.
My facial hair isn’t necessarily patchy but I have like blonde to whiteish hair on my mustache and upper cheeks interspersed with brown hair on the chin, sides of mouth, sideburns and neck, so it looks really patchy from a distance. I made a few attempts at bearding the 2000’s but gave it up and have been clean shaven since.
Luckily I have a full head on top and it’s holding strong.
Whenever I try to grow a beard I just look Amish.
Well you have to grow the mustache too. And trim it in proportion with the beard.

I’m pretty critical of beards but Vance’s seems fine to me, that’s basically what it looks like when you’re in new beard growth mode and he obvious isnt trying to grow it way out. Guess i kind of see the point about leaving the hair further down on the neck.
Mandatory side beard pic, maybe my chin hairs could be a bit longer. I did just do a good 0.5" or so trim this morning.
More power to you folks who can manage a long beard (both the ability to grow it and to maintain it and keep it from looking like shit, which is the part I know I can’t be bothered with).
