He gets the same thing every GOP politician who initially demonized Trump but then bent the knee and kissed the ring. He’d be catering to the Trump base, a significant block of previously unengaged voters who were motivated by the overt racism and accompanying strongman persona. Desantis is trying to walk the thin line of being another Trump, loving the OG Trump, and also trying to beat Trump. No way could he let Trump stay in prison (lol like this is even fucking happening) and keep the support of the Trump base.
