I actually think that would be a terrible outcome in a lot of ways. Trump would become some kind of martyred national hero, swear to god I’d lose my mind.

Sending the impeachment over after he leaves office but before any real investigations are done into the causes of 1/6 seems like the absolute worst timing. Gg Democrats, just giving Trump an opportunity to claim TOTAL EXONERATION again.

Yeah, the impeachment is going to be delivered Monday. They’ll all argue “THE PROCESS WAS TOO FAST !!ONE!!!111!” And then vote to acquit.

Will it look any better for Republicans who vote to acquit Trump if the full evidence of his crimes comes out after they vote to acquit? Maybe a little, but it’s not a very good line.

The “Dems are always wrong” people will blame Democrats for the refusal of Republicans to convict for obviously traitorous, ridiculous and legitimately unprecedented behavior no matter what. If you have the trial now, its going to be “WAY TOO FAST” or “NOT CLEAR THIS IS CONSTITUTIONAL.” If you have it in 3 months it will be “UNITY THO” and “LOOK FORWARD NOT BACKWARD.”
All the blame here is on the GOP, period. They’re fucking evil and assigning any fraction of one percent of the blame for the non-conviction to Democrats is absurd.

I meant they don’t care about the optics of how they get there. Whether there is a ton of evidence revealed or none. They don’t care. They just care about the bottom line.
Republicans absolutely don’t need to concern themselves with “Will it look any better for Republicans who vote to acquit Trump if the full evidence of his crimes comes out after they vote to acquit?” It doesn’t matter. All that matters to the base is if they acquit or not. How they get there is irrelevant to them.

I’ve got a good friend who lives in Gaetz’s district, is from a wealthy family, and has generally progressive politics. our group of friends is trying to get him to run against Gaetz, but that district is so fucking full of deplorables, it’s really fucking tough.
