This assumes DeSantis wants to run with him, as a VP candidate. I’d be surprised if he wants that.
There are a lot of suburban types, especially suburban women, who are fundamentally GOP voters but who are personally repulsed by Trump.
If they can run a candidate who is not obviously a) a complete piece of shit and, less importantly b) not embarrassingly, obviously stupid, these people will come running back to the Republican Party.
It’s tricky because Trump juiced deplorable turnout precisely because of both a) and b) above. DeSantis is the only candidate potentially capable of bridging the two factions.

I mean DeSantis will be in the primaries for sure, but if he flames out, why not. Trump’s chances of dying in office between '25-'29 are not insignificant.

I don’t get what anyone thinks can happen. There is no pathway for anything happening except just more tears.
Their next assault on the Capitol building might be successful, all this stuff is just to keep the insurrection justification on a low boil.
It’s all in service of maintaining the viability of the big lie that the election was stolen. That way there will be a robust canon of justifications for overturning the election the next time around or for enacting laws to suppress votes. It will be much easier for congressmen to support an insurrection in the name of preserving democracy or whatever the next time around if there is an established legend about how Democrats stole the last election because they used invisible ink to secretly steal Arizona from Trump,
