I think we went through this the first time around, but I think only a small minority of senators (maybe just one) has to insist that the votes be recorded and then they can’t be secret. Or something like that. My memory on this issue is fuzzy.
So change that rule!
People seem to not get that all these stupid ass Senate rules can be changed by a simple 50 +1 vote.
Sounds good to me. I forget the details, but if that’s an option, they definitely need to do that.
Trump is a unicorn, absolutely nobody else is going to get 70 million votes. Since it is pretty obvious our lol legal system isn’t going to do shit about his dozens of obvious felonies, let’s make it easy for the GOP to help nuke him.
Zero chance it would be kept secret with social media and how the GOP has succumbed to populism.
It seems a bit cowardly to change the vote to a secret ballot.
Sure, senators could reveal their own votes. But they can easily set up a system where there is no way a given senator could prove that his vote was actually what he said it was. That’s part of what makes it secret.
Well, we are dealing with cowards. Seems appropriate.

I disagree with this. I want to open up Republicans to physical repercussions from the people they have enabled for so long. I don’t want to protect Republicans from other Republicans.
To be clear, I’m not saying that I want Trumpists to hurt any Senators, although I will very vocally share my shadenfreude here if it happens, including figuratively dancing on any graves. I’m saying I want Republican politicians to feel terror in their hearts that it might happen. If you want to accuse me of terrorism by proxy, then so be it.
Of course it’s cowardly. It’s Republicans. The whole ballgame (for me anyway) is to kill Trump’s chance of ever running again. Nothing else matters.
And yeah there’s no way R senators are more afraid of bad press in the MSM for not voting to convict, vs. becoming a bulls-eye for the loony wing of their own party if they do. Not even close.
The idea that Rs will face any repercussions whatsoever for not voting to convict is pure fantasy imo. Look at all the Dems who voted for the Iraq war. Bernie voted against. How much good has it done him? How much has it hurt the rest of them?
so first off this is just politics fantasy league stuff (which is still pretty fun) but uhh if the choice is effectively between
Convicting and barring Trump on a secret ballot
or
51-49 vote to convict where nothing happens
the obvious best result is the former and I don’t think its close. Even if its secret everyone “knows” who voted for what. For fucking sure.
Banning Trump from office is a better result than not banning him, but I am also not a results-oriented thinker.

To me, that’s stupid. How is criticizing Q criticizing Republicans? These morons believe in Jewish Space Lasers, 9/11 is an inside job, and shoot shootings don’t happen. There are plenty of Republicans that think Q is batshit insane. Dems can’t be afraid to go after Q. It’s how we got Trump in the first place.
Change the rule to vote in secret. Then after 67 Senators vote to convict, change the rule again to make the votes public. Because fuck you, that’s why.
Republicans are kind of specialists in twisting everything into personal grievance. Of course its stupid, but that’s their game.
As easy as matching signatures to mail-in ballots.
I wish this were true.
