The Former Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Volume XI: The Crypt Keeper Years

Nice try but cancel culture won’t get this one imo. At least not yet.

Well God did give the land to the white man to rescue it from the natives in a manifest dynasty.

So the FBI was running the proud boys?

The FBI/CIA is running 99.9% of the terrorist plots currently in progress around the world.

This is all so depressing. My hope is that it backfires and net costs the Rs in 2022. But that was the hope when Trump got the 2016 nom.

Ds need to put Stacey in charge of electoral strategy and turnout in 2022.

Its not terrorism when America does it, stupid.

To be fair to them, they know their down low racism can’t compete with the Trump high octane, overt racism. What choice do they have?

Had a depressing conversation with my dad last night. He feels there’s no coming back from this and thinks the great American experiment is over. With Trump STILL retaining favorable (and growing?) support among Republicans it’s hard to disagree

I guess making racism okay allowed them all to crawl out from under their rocks and they’re not going away now. With one party who is pure evil and ruthless trying to hold onto power by abetting them and the other party too weak to be ruthless let alone stop them, he thinks it’s over

Anyone here disagree? Is there any optimism left to be had? If so, give it to me

He may or may not end up being right, but there is little utility in being able to say “I told you so” over a pile of rubble. Either there is something worth fighting for, or there is not. Despairing before the ruin has even happened is to concede the whole battle.

I’m optimistic insofar as that I have never attached any of my hope for a better world to be brought about by billionaires or the politicians that they own. I find my hope outside of the political arena and outside of the Dem v GOP dichotomy.

You want a reason for optimism?

One bit of optimism imo is that younger eDems, including a lot of the staffers in the Obama admin, seem to recognise how precarious things are. A lot of those now have senior positions in the Biden admin. I think even Biden is going to quickly understand how obstructionist the GOP are going to be. Sometimes you have to suffer something yourself to figure that out. I think that might also happen with Manchin & Sinema.

Oh god, the Clintons haven’t gone away yet.

I should’ve mentioned that what started the conversation is that he’s researching countries to move to. He has completely given up on America.

He said it’s only recent that people are identified by who they vote for. It didn’t used to matter if your neighbor or co-worker voted for the other guy. You just agreed to disagree and continued on with your relationship. He doesn’t feel that’s the case now. He (and myself) find it difficult if not impossible to carry on relationships with people who still support a narcissist game show host who in 4 years left this country in complete ruin. It’s inconceivable to either of us how any rational person can continue to support him at this late date

We have Q members in our congress. Politicians who now have to fear for their lives under threat of their own colleagues! For me, it all comes down to accountability. If the former president, Giuliani, others, and members of congress are allowed to walk away from this with no repercussions then I agree, there is no coming back and this country is done

But how do you feel living among people who are fine with racism and gullible enough to accept outlandish lies without any evidence whatsoever?

It’s nice to have the luxury to be able to move. A lot of people don’t. They matter, and they could be really, really badly screwed if everyone who can abandons them.
