The Former Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Volume XI: The Crypt Keeper Years

I’d like to take the wayback machine to Columbus, OH, circa the 1990s, for some Damon’s ribs.

How did Damon’s fail. Incredible food, great place to watch a game. Spent a lot of time at The Continent location.

It was the first sports bar I’d ever been to with multiple large screens and a table top speaker with choice of game.

In the words of Keith Jackson: On the banks of the OOOOOlentangy.

Somehow two of us from my Wisconsin high school went to UVa. We would go to the Charlottesville Damon’s to watch Packers games and I would always get the Steamboat: hollowed out loaf of bread (rye?) filled with pulled pork barbecue.

Looks like there is one left. In, of course, Myrtle Beach.

The same thing that happened to West Virginia and Arkansas and that’s happening in Michigan and Wisconsin. Breaking up unions and offering white racial solidarity in their place.

Unreal garbage of course but doesn’t explain their repube governor and senators. Same goes for FL. The libs moving out and deplorables filling it up are better explanations. We need to start moving to Wyoming and the Dakotas if the current crop of spineless Dems aren’t going to make DC and PR states.

Counterpoint: no one wants to live in the Dakotas

Not great Bob

Nor move to Ohio.

I know a communist living there by choice.

Los of Californians are moving to Utah. Come on over!

Lots of Californians are moving to Texas and other red states. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong Californians. They’re moving there because CA is too liberal for them and they want to be with like-minded deplorables.

We need lefties to move.

It’s just my observation, but something is causing a shift left here. The reason to come is mainly economic, not political. Unemployment is relatively low. Housing, relatively inexpensive. The amount of new construction in SLC is insane. Lots of accessible outdoor recreation. There are downsides but the influx is definitely happening.

Also lots of growth in the Ogden area. Lots of younger people (mountain bikers love it). I think it’s similar in Logan.

Ohio only has one Republican Senator.

Republicans have had some very skilled politicians at the state level like George Voinovich, John Kasich, and Mike DeWine who weren’t crazy conservatives while Democrats had some weak candidates such as Ed Fitzgerald, Mary Boyle, and Lee Fisher. And you had Ken Blackwell running elections for a while. He and some of his successors have been more like Brian Kemp and less like Brad Raffensberger in that role, I suspect.

Republicans have had a run of solid, competent candidates. Democrats have had a run of weak candidates and gerrymandering has given them limited slots to develop a bench of potential candidates for higher office. Find a candidate as good as Sherrod Brown and maybe find someone weak to run against and Democrats can still win statewide in Ohio.

Cliffs on Sherrod Brown? Everyone seems to describe him as some sort of wizard, which doesn’t seem too far off considering he is able to win a statewide election in OH. What makes him so great?

Authentic Midwestern populism.
