The First Trump Impeachment: Wrap Up and AMA (Within Reason)

That it will be competitive. How else can you take what I said?

I’m just letting you know you’re an a-hole. You cover it well to most people, but boy does it come out on occasion in the most unnecessary ways. In case you wonder how I came to this conclusion, that quote’s a piece of it.

This just doesn’t seem to match any polling that I’ve seen.

Montana is listed as super-safe R by just about every projection mechanism out there for both the presidency and the senate seat.

What are they missing that you are seeing?

Just the same things you all are.

But hey, we’re likely doomed.

FYI, saying what you said there is a lot more disrespectful to me than arguing with me.

The United States Senate is not here to save the day.

Based on my careful analysis, all three legs the Senate GOP stood on with regard to impeachment are still available. Their three legs were called LOL, Fuck, and You. They wrapped them up in some shiny packaging, but that’s what the legs were. Those legs are still there, I promise.

Dude, it’s such a big losing issue it would cost Dems the election in 2020. Like I don’t even think they have the votes in the House, but let’s pretend they did… Here’s how it would play out:

Act 1: Impeachment in the House, media goes nuts “OMG, are they really gonna do it??? This is an escalation! Do they have the votes??? Wow, they do, he’s getting impeached, WHAT WILL THE GOP DO??? HOW WILL THIS PLAY OUT WITH THE VOTERS???”

Act 2: Senate pulls out those trust three legs and says LOL Fuck You, then proceeds to have no witnesses and a quick acquittal. No Romney this time. Manchin probably jumps ship too.

Act 3: American voters feel like the Democrats were being too partisan and start asking themselves some important questions… like who the fuck are this Mike Bar guy and that Bill Pompayo dude anyway? What did the Secretary of the District of Justice and the Attorney State General do wrong? Is the District of Justice in Washington State or DC? Or maybe it’s Virginia? I think they mentioned it on CSI once. Also, I mean, are the Secretary of the CSI District of Justice and the Attorney State General in Virginia even important and like what do they do? Did I vote for them? Did Hillary run for that?

Ultimately the voters decide it really can’t be that important if they don’t know who these people are and the Republicans and some Democrats acquitted them so the Democrats must have been out of line.

The end.

They already shredded it, then they took the waste bins out back and burned the shredded paper, then they pissed on the ashes, then they dumped the ashes into most polluted body of water they could find. They’re currently looking into whether they can drop one of those big bombs on the body of water with the pissed on ashes from the burnt shredded paper in it.

He’s not.

He’s going to massively cheat.

I kind of like this new waa almost f nunnehi and the darkness that comes with the eternal optimism in the establishment and the levers of justice.

But I’ll bet 51% of Georgia voters who get their votes counted are more scared of a socialist Senate candidate like (insert name of milquetoast Dem here).

Nunn, my man, I was basically saying this to you like six months ago, right? The thing about it is, those of us who were where you are now six months ago, two years ago, etc, we knew he was never getting convicted, we knew they’d shred the Constitution, we knew it was going to go almost entirely down party lines, we were hoping for maybe a 51-49 vote to convict at the onset but after they voted against witnesses we all knew there would be at best one Republican vote to convict. Why watch it? Why listen to speeches full of bullshit reasons to vote for a king? Like, I don’t need to hear that to go knock on doors and donate to the 2020 nominee. I’m good, I’m going to do my part to help us win, I already have enough rage against the GOP and enough hope that this one last glimmer of hope is for real… Cory Gardner’s 10 minutes (or whatever) of bullshit was not going to change that.

I watched the vote on witnesses with a modicum of minute hope. Once that went down, it became clear there was only one way to ever get this guy out of office: beat him in 2020 by so much that they can’t rig it in his favor. That’s all that matters now.

Yep, this.

Me, too. Didn’t work.

Still doing some of this, IRL they just think I’m insane and will continue to think so unless and until we’re utterly and completely fucked. Every now and then I tap the glass anyway, hoping they’ll realize. They don’t.

I lay in bed at night thinking about this sometimes.

Guilty.

Some off this too, to be sure.

Yep.

You continue to not realize how few people pay any attention at all to this stuff.

I don’t think anyone here would be happy about this.

We don’t win 2020 by converting Trump people. We win it by turning out everyone else. Elections in this country now are about turnout, not winning over the other side. I know you’re kind of late to the WAAF party, but welcome aboard, and here’s the thing… The sides are picked, the stakes are clear, the teams are set. We’ve still gotta pick a captain, but other than that, all that’s left is the game. We’ve gotta get our team to all sign up and go out and play, and maybe we’ll have a shot… But nobody from the other side is switching, at least not at a high enough frequency for it to be worth expending effort on.

Spend the effort convincing undecideds, perhaps, but mostly just make sure people who will vote for the good guys are registered to vote and remember to vote. Knock on doors for the candidate. Travel to the nearest swing state to knock on doors. Donate. Phone bank. Text bank.

I’m going to confront racism, sexism, etc when I see them in real life… But I’m not going to go trying to convince cultists to vote for the person they think is their arch enemy. There’s no point in telling them off for it if they’re keeping to themselves. If they start going after others via racism, sexism, etc, do your best to put them in their place. Otherwise you’re wasting your time/effort.

We all know what’s going on.

Jon Tester is a rare political breed, and so is Steve Bullock. If he was running, I might think we had a non-zero chance at Montana… but he’s not running as far as I know.

I don’t think it is, especially in the context of JT’s openness on this forum about his own struggles personally with what’s going on. It’s tough to cope with what’s going on with our democracy, and it seems like in some ways you’re just coming to grips with it post-impeachment, whereas most of us went through this collectively a while ago.

I think people need to consider what’s really happening itt and read between the lines, and hopefully then they’ll stop responding to nunnehi who’s obviously (to spell it out!) in a very bad place.

Nunnehi: please just take a break because it’s not good for anyone feeling the whole world’s against them.

Best wishes.

Grunching (like holy shit) but,

that’s because WAAF is an expression of catharsis and not a literal ideology, especially not the specific ideology you imagine it to be! This shouldn’t need to be spelled out.

I also went hard at JT for his particular expression of WAAF like a few days ago, so while UP might be an avatar for the debate opponent you see in the world, it’s not a literal manifestation. It’s not nihilistsRus dot com.

Finally a nunnehi containment thread

No doubt he’s going to barricade himself in his office if he loses the election. They’ll have to send in an extraction team to drag him out.

Narrator: He did not call Vindman deep state.

How do you know it hasn’t hurt the senators’ re-election chances?

Seems like no one will know for another 10 months.

McSally is getting fucking killed for calling a CNN reporter (lol) a liberal hack re: impeachment questioning, and her opponent is raising money hand over fist. Seems like that’s a data point in the “impeachment helps Dems” column.
