I blame the parents.

Alright Iā€™ve been inspired to take on you lads with possible unpopular opinions, letā€™s see if I can hold my ground or if Iā€™m swayed again.

Nothing wrong with teenage girls dressing like that or doing that stuff. Its totally normal and something that was just previously oppressed by our culture. If you find it sexually uncomfortable or worry about " that poor girl " youā€™re the weird one.

Come at me bros

Thereā€™s something up with her lips. She looks like she has mouthpiece from Mrs. Potato Head in her mouth.

As for dressing like that, itā€™s a different era. People want to be poppinā€™ for that gram. Being overly made up and photoshopped is the way to be.

The hyper sexualization of teenage girls has a huge negative impact on their self-image and future sexual health. It also leads to eating disorders.

If she was a bit younger Iā€™d agree, but a lot of 15 year olds are going to be either having sex or trying to have sex and over-sexualising their appearance is just part of the learning curve for them.

Dressing like thatā€™s fine, but social media is destroying peopleā€™s minds imo.

No question. I might not be a Sam Harris fanboy but he said it best when he said that social media has made us unwilling participants in an experiment that no one knows the outcome of.

You are correct about the first but incorrect about the second. Of course, 15 year olds will be having sex. But the hyper sexualization (of just girls) is not some natural outcome of that, it is purely a cultural phenomenon created by the media which forces young women to constantly strive for unrealistic and unattainable body image and physical appearance. It is very harmful to womenā€™s lifelong self image. It is largely a result of the male control of the media too.

Iā€™m sure this sounds odd coming from me but it is easy to trick ourselves into thinking something is sexual liberation when itā€™s in fact constricting actual sexual expression.

Conway is a 15 year old girl wearing makeup. Sheā€™s not a 12 year old wearing mini shorts and a see through top.

If you look at her profile you will see this isnā€™t true. Anyway, Iā€™m making a larger point. Not specific to her.

Social media literally might destroy society. Itā€™s so subtle, but the ability of people to curate the media influences they consumeā€”in a sense, to curate their own realityā€”seems beyond what humans are capable of handling.

I remember long debates on 22 about why so many countries all over the world were dealing with populist takeovers of their governments at this very moment. It seems obvious now that a big part of the reason is social media.

Thereā€™s nothing wrong with an individual teenaged girl doing what she wants. But grown men having sexual interest in teenagers should be a lot more taboo than it is.

If you look at media influences, there are some crazy examples of sexualizing teenagers for menā€™s consumption, especially if you go back 20 years. Even the famous Seinfeld cleavage scene condones the idea.

Weā€™re way better on the media side then we used to be, and the trade of child pornography has largely been quelled, but we need to continue reinforcing the taboo.

Whatā€™s the deal with the oversexualization of teenagers!?

Look at who her parents are.

This is the key point. It is too often oppression disguised as liberation.

If you look at the research, it is not some innate desire of girls to be hyper sexualized at puberty. They are trying to conform to extremely powerful social pressure. The research also shows it has serious immediate and long term effects.

The solution isnā€™t forcing girls not to wear makeup. They are doing nothing wrong.

The solution is working to change our social ideas of female sexuality moving it from a submissive one to an empowered one. We also need to reform our idea of body and image type.

I guess she was the inspiration for Sidra Holland.

I see it in wider terms of a consumerist society that encourages superficiality, hedonism, materialism, and instant gratification. To see things mainly in terms of sexuality seems too narrow a focus.

The blueprint for how to identify and pulverize precious ice sculptures of belief isnā€™t solving Ravenā€™s progressive matrices the fastest and then launching hot takes. Thatā€™s the kind of Mickey Mouse bullshit youā€™d see from, say, prominent poker authors. The method is spotting consensus beliefs people hold without good evidence and scientifically investigating whether those beliefs are justified. The latent traits for that are curiosity, non-conformity, and perseverance way more so than raw intelligence. Youā€™ll probably notice them more in areas youā€™re most familiar with where you do frequent deep dives which is good because nobody has time to be an expert in everything.

Semi-g, but in situations like these I think its best to remove proper noun labels from things and then place oneself in each of the relevant actors to examine the situations. Kellyanne and whatshisface are public figures who routinely suggest terrible things against fellow human beings so fuck them and who cares. The child however, which is really the most significant morale issueā€¦ so like if whatever I thought or said no matter how advanced I was myself at whatever hypothetical age was being hyper analyzed like this, I would almost certainly be embarrassed by this later in my life and regret saying such public things. Nearly every child star fades from light and few seek it out, many have significant problems that come from such exposure before they are really capable to consent to being a public figure. So basically my conclusion is that it should basically be offlimits.

That said we live in a society where all of this is fresh and the rules are being hashed out on the fly, so Iā€™m sure that vultures on either side would be happy to exploit this sort of situation if they feel it aids their narrative. So my vote would be to err towards the right side of history and I guess I agree with Clovis. Anyways must be something in my coffee or something so maybe Iā€™ll go take a tylenol and hope I get better soon.

Is there really any reason to believe that the 15yo isnā€™t in on the obvious grift her parents are setting up? Orā€¦ maybe her parents let her use her accounts like a typical 15yo, while they also use her accounts directly to set up their own grift? Doesnā€™t anyone use Occamā€™s Razor anymore?
