The Crypto Thread

Your mom was right! You would have been better off if you had never gotten into poker. How many big time programmers making bank do we have on this board that wasted years of their lives trying to shipithollaball?

I wouldnt bet on competently or effectively, but I do expect we will move to affirmative requirements to declare crypto holdings. We are already sort of going down that path.

You saw the same thing with DFS though. It went from a thing some number of ~30 yr old white nerdy to oversaturating ads that annoyed ppl

Feels like fewer annoying DFS ads this year.

DFS isnt even a real business anymore. It barely made money and all the big players are pivoting to sports betting as are the peripheral businesses like tout sites. It basically only still exists as customer acquisition source for sportsbooks.

I’m 100% in poo jpgs.

ETA: I’m actually about 45% NFTs, 45% liquid ETH, 10% staking scams

the banks own all the crypters though

This…did not change my mind

Yeah this is a pretty hilarious story.

Quick question if anyone is interested in commenting on. Please do not take it as a jab of some sort - I’m being geniune, and I don’t follow any of this.

For those following NFTs and who is buying them, are you guys seeing a lot of other friends or folks that you know to be real showing real interest in owning some of the digital art? When Beanie Babies were a thing, I remember constant chatter about people wanting this and that for whatever reason but from my distant view it feel like folks are just in aww about what these things are selling for without the interest in owning them themselves.

Victor,

Great post, hope to see more of you ITT going forward.

For this space I dont think its really valuable if your dumb friend wants in. They need whales. They need people with huge fuck you money. That’s the demo.

That already exists in large part because of all of the people who got insanely wealthy on the last decade crypto runup.

Maybe I am missing your point but the fact that the “cool kids” got called out for making somewhat problematic posts is exactly what you have been saying doesn’t happen?

I mean i do think different posters get treated somewhat differently here to some extent but isn’t what is happening here the opposite of that?

Oh for sure. Just the Microstakes stuff was easier in 2012 than 2022. Not impossible today, but easier imo.

Sure, but the little guy gives it the initial spark.

I get that if you’re transferring money from one person to another via a pic of a banana for a million, someone like Martha Stewart with loads of money is eventually going to think it’s a cool looking banana worth a million and buy it. But I don’t see enough demand from the little guy "wishing he could own it if he was rich to warrant the buys and sells.

I’ve had some friends jump in and try it out, most are just doing it occasionally at small stakes but my good friend has become pretty interested in the space and has made good money.

Apparently NFTs are very popular with high school kids if you believe Twitter. No one I know has any idea about this stuff but I think wrong demo.

My entire friend group thinks NFTs are super dumb. But a bunch of them own shitcoins like doge and shiba, so :man_shrugging:
