There was higher turnout, so he got more votes, but his margin of loss was higher. Just looking at total number of votes isn’t a great way to assess this. Besides, a huge number of Biden’s 80 million+ are people that just hate Trump and would pick anyone over him.
Biden got way more votes than Obama ever did, but no one thinks he is a better candidate than Obama was.
