Yeah Trump is a wildcard they didn’t see coming. I was thinking more of the tea party.
The only part of his non-standard right rhetoric Trump has actually carried through with is isolationism (mostly). The healthcare stuff was just a complete lie. So I don’t know where that falls.
In terms of the Tea Party, well that was an astro-turfed “movement” so that was a little easier to keep pulling to the right. Trump(like Qanon, maybe?) is more of an emergent phenomena demonstrating what happens when the powers that be aren’t holding the reins or choosing the horse, so to speak.

USA needs a truth and reconciliation commission. Get all the crimes out in public and on record. But limited prosecutions unless you actively obstruct the investigations.
Some of it will be boring financial stuff. But once they start investigating the border camps, the shit that comes out is going to be horrifying and will keep the commision in the news.
Its the approach taken in south africa, and was used in the wake of a number of other civil wars.
You cant arrest them all. But you also cant ignore it.
