So, the election as a concept was unconstitutional? That’s different.

Everybody’s probably read the letter outgoing President Bush left for Bill Clinton. It was particularly gracious since he’s just lost a tough re-election campaign. All the letters since then strike a similar tone, congratulatory and humble. Even Obama’s letter to Trump is kind and conciliatory. It concludes:

Third, we are just temporary occupants of this office. That makes us guardians of those democratic institutions and traditions – like rule of law, separation of powers, equal protection and civil liberties – that our forebears fought and bled for. Regardless of the push and pull of daily politics, it’s up to us to leave those instruments of our democracy at least as strong as we found them.

And finally, take time, in the rush of events and responsibilities, for friends and family. They’ll get you through the inevitable rough patches.

Michelle and I wish you and Melania the very best as you embark on this great adventure, and know that we stand ready to help in any ways which we can.

It would be fair in some ways to scoff at these traditions, but I think even just pretending to be humble and conciliatory is an important part of the smooth transition. I’m remembering that openly characterizing your political opponents as pure “EVIL” to be defeated at all costs is a relatively new phenomenon. Obama spent (or wasted) his presidency trying to work together to get things done and realize the shared values of most Americans. Biden, sadly, may be about to do the same.

I’m trying to imagine the handwritten heartfelt letter that will be left by Trump for incoming President Biden. It’s really just not possible. He’s blown the whole thing up and he’s proud of it. And 70 million of his followers are proud of it too.

Reminds me of this. Billionaires acting like toddlers. If you haven’t seen it, the embedded video of the guy’s house being rattled apart by Gilligan’s Island is more awesome than you can possibly imagine.

Schwartz issued a statement that the dispute was “very upsetting” to her because the sculpture, with its assorted blue pieces, was bought for her by Gross because her mother was ill.

Since I have no children of my own, they are like my babies.

Only a billionaire, insulated from any and all personal criticism in their daily life, could think something like that is a reasonable thing to say.
