Still a banger. I remember the first time I had it, probably around 2005. I was in a beer store in Chicago looking around. One of the sales guys came over to see if he could help, and I told him that I wanted to get something to take with me to a poker game - something light and tasty. I forget what he recommended, but it was probably something very sensible, like a Pils or a Hefeweizen. I thanked him and then reached for a bomber of this 9-10% DIPA. What an asshole I was.
Armagnac is French brandy from Armagnac, a distinct region from Cognac. It’s often column distilled instead of pot distilled, which can make it a little less flavorful (e.g. whiskey is usually pot distilled while vodka is column distilled), but at the same time, a lot of the flavor of brown liquors comes from the barrels and not just the distillate.
If you’re a fan of The Sopranos, it’s the stuff that the Artie and the French dude (who scams Artie and ultimately gets beat up by Furio) were going to import and sell.
I like west coast IPAs, but I can actually understand the sentiment. In the early 2000s the style became a contest to cram as much over the top hops flavor as possible into a single beer. I like hops, but it was getting a bit annoying when they started making beers with names like “Hop Bomb” or “Hop Assault” or “This Is Just A Can Containing Nothing But Unprocessed Hops Leaves Are You Happy Now What Is Wrong With You People Jesus Christ”.
I feel like youre mocking my practice of walking around my beer shop with untappd app open while mumbling “needs more citra” at every can like an alcoholic version of Christopher Walken’s Bruce Dickinson.
I dislike citra hops, I want malt forward beers. Porters and stouts are my gig, I still like some IPAs, but most aren’t well balanced. I go to the local liquor store and 90%+ of the craft beers are IPAs and lagers, not even black lagers
Had a Sriracha stout along with a super spicy cheese on vacation in Oregon. In the hotel with my wife it was a vicious cycle of this cheese is too spicy I need beer, oh this beer is too spicy I need some cheese, and repeat.
