The beer, wine, and spirits thread

Just saw this post, nice looking Pisco sour!

You probably know this, but chilcano is another great drink you can make with pisco and specially for the summer it’s really refreshing. I like to use passion fruit pulp in either chilcano or pisco sour to add a nice twist to the drink.

One of my favorites, picked up couple variety cases a few weeks back. Highly recommend anyone in driving range of their brewery in MA to take a trip and grab some, if you’re into beer.

I’ve got a backlog of quick beer reviews I’ve wanted to post, since I’ve been drinking a ton during quarantine. But for now I just wanted to brag about a sick move I pulled tonight.

Wife and I are getting takeout and I didn’t feel like being the pickup person, so I just opened a beer and casually walked by her when it was 1/4 full. “Sorry, can’t pick up, I’ve been drinking.”

Basically a beer version of the commitment mechanism that Ren McCormack unintentionally used in Footloose when his shoelaces got tied to the gas pedal in the tractor game of chicken. When your opponent sees that you’ve made an irreversible commitment, their available strategies shrink.

I gave you the heart, but it’s DS who’s the author of Chicken for Advanced Players

Public Service Announcement: Free $25 at wine.com.

Scroll down the page (pg. 17) until you get to the posts with referral codes. Click the link and it will go to wine.com and in a moment or two a window will pop up with a code worth $25. You paste the code into the appropriate spot when checking out.

You will likely have to pay about $8 or so to ship the bottle, but that’s a nice price for a $25 bottle. Find something on sale as they are generally overpriced. (I only order with coupon codes of at least 30% off, and usually still only select wines that are on sale.)

I have free shipping with them so I got a nice Willamette Valley Pinot Noir for 99 cents shipped. You can hold shipping for up to 6 months - I’m holding all my recent orders until early November when the weather is better for shipping wine.

Oh yeah, none of those referral links in the linked thread are mine or I would have disclosed it here.

@skydiver8 as the leading San Diego beer expert, thoughts on Modern Times?

They have some good stuff. I like their gose and stout. I don’t know much about their IPA(s) because I tend to avoid IPAs, but I know they have a lot of IPA varieties. If you’re an IPA lover, give them a try.

It’s also one of the few sour beers you can find in a can (well, it was for a while) which is always nice.

I love Modern Times, pretty much everything I tasted was exactly my taste (but it’s mostly very citrusy/tropical IPAs). Wanted to see if they pass the SD purity test.

SD local here. I love Modern Times. My GF is more of a beer snob than I am, and she likes them too.

I buy a pack of Modern Times Orderville every time I go grocery shopping.

It’s been forever since I’ve posted in this thread, and I’ve got a big backlog of disappointments and pleasant surprises to post. But in light of today’s earlier conversation about baseball players and how Buster Posey is emphatically not the best catcher of all time, I wanted to post tonight’s beer as I get ready for the HAMILTON WATCH PARTY:

Just a perfect West Coast style IPA in an obviously perfect glass.

Did you have a nervous twitch when you were pouring?

I am an aggressive pourer. This isn’t a college keg party where I’m tilting my cup trying to impress people with how little foam I get.

NO APOLOGIES

Without the head you couldn’t read the glass nearly well enough, anyway

I don’t try to get as little as possible, about 2" is perfect, but that seems excessive and I would get impatient waiting for that shit to settle.

SAY YOU’RE SORRY!

Team aggressive pour

We call that a “Prague pour” in my household.

Google says that’s an Ohio brewery, can’t wait to visit family out there post-covid.

West coast is the best coast, but Midwest is the best west.

Piss off, I’m watching the show now.

This is an elite Hamilton reference, not a slam on you.

I thought I would cross-post my note from Cellar Tracker for this interesting little summer red that doesn’t need to be consumed with food and cost in the $15 range.

2017 Jorge Ordoñez & Co. Garnacha Botani, 100% Garnacha (Grenache)

A light bodied Spanish red with moderate acidity. The nose was one dimensional red fruit. It tasted distinctly like a red fruit gummy with a prominent cinnamon note on the finish. I enjoyed this and think it’s a nice light fairly simple red to serve a little bit chilled on a warm spring or summer day. Does not require food to enjoy.
