The beer, wine, and spirits thread

Had this at Picasso in Vegas. Can confirm, it’s pretty great.

This is the exact one I had.

Picked up a nice haul from bottlecraft today. I’m like I swear guys I didn’t just buy exactly what you’ve posted on Instagram over the last 24 hours, I’m not that guy. Then they try to ring in one that was posted an hour ago and it wasn’t even in the system and I’m just like wow what luck I just grabbed that randomly whewww

So I didn’t get a bottle of this for Christmas but just picked one up today. Had a quick pour a few minutes ago and it’s so good. Thanks for the rec. I’ll be having another pour this evening for sure.

Yeah that Uigeadail is real good. Sherry + smoke makes a very beefy Scotch.

If you’re looking for peat options but don’t like Laphroaig, I like Talisker if you want something that tastes/feels more like the sea. More briny than something like Laphroaig, but it works.

Also the Lagavulin 8 is pretty good if the 16 is too much for you (it was originally a limited 200th anniversary release but I think they decided to make it permanent).

Another recommendation here-- Corazón blanco tequila. Apparently it’s won quite a few awards. They oxygenate the tequila as part of the distilling process, which I’ve never heard anybody do before, but whatever the case, the resulting spirit is really smooth and soft, great texture, easy to drink. Not pricey at all.

Good article if you’re a craft brewery or RTJ fan.

So, my company’s stock has doing surprisingly well, and some options that had been worthless since they’d vested could all of a sudden be redeemed. Time to celebrate with a fancy brandy. BUT! Is it really as good as its price? Only way to find out for sure is a double blind taste test.

Our contenders!

Cognac Park Cigar Blend, today’s purchase. $165 in the state of Oregon. One of the most expensive liquor purchases I’ve ever made.

Salignac VS. Bought this to share with my family around Thanksgiving. $30

Copper and Kings American Craft Brandy. Not sure what the occasion was for this one. $35

One admitted variable in this is that the brandies are distinctly colored, so we put them in two black coffee mugs and a dark red glass rather than the usual identical glasses. It might affect flavor in a small sense, but I think the affect of glass on flavor is small compared to how distinct these tasted.

Results:

Third place: Salignac VS. Pleasant brandy flavors, nothing unpleasant, but a bit more muted and boring compared to the other two.

Second place: Cognac Park Cigar Blend. Like a more intense version of the Salignac. Drinks nicely, but it doesn’t knock my socks off like first place.

First place: Copper and Kings American Craft Brandy. Rich and complex. Unexpectedly fruity. A clear winner in my book. This stuff is obviously a steal at $35. Gonna be hard to convince me to buy any brandy other than this or Paul Masson VSOP ($18, one of the most ridiculously good values in spirits even at Oregon prices)

A very fine beer. Hard to get in Toronto though.

Just saw this. New Glory is a local sacramento brewery. What’s the verdict?

It was the best one of those but a fresh citra hop ipa is always gonna be good to me. Haven’t seen anything else from them at my local store.

8bit was good, the north park ipa was a little light to me, burly oak was ok, the original 40 was stale

I drink their stuff quite often, they’re pretty good and widely available here. And ya im a sucker for citra too.

See, I feel like the first sip the alcohol burns off any other lingering flavors on the palate and then you can start to really taste the liquor afterward.

Yeah you should always give something at least two sips for exactly this reason.

I always make sure to have at least 42 sips, after that I find that the drink tastes better, I become a better singer, my opinions become better and more important to share, my wife gets prettier …

I missed the sun and elite hazys.

I haven’t heard of 2 of the hops in this but it’s fantastic.
