The 2024 Hurricane Season - Helene Heading to FLA Panhandle

Average homeowners premium is already $4,200 and is sure to increase after this.

Looks like the southernmost point camera went down finally.

We need to start compiling a list of hurricane chasers with good streams. Reed Timmer is ready down there and I imagine will be live for most of it.

stuff like this drives me nuts but you are right that is exactly what will happen

Looks like the southernmost point cam is back up. Getting spicy down in the keys:

I love that Reed does his storm chasing in a Subaru Forester. I am in love with mine lol.

We love my wife’s. Well except when I want to pass someone. It has no ballz.

Or rental cars. He has totaled out a bunch of rental cars with maxed out insurance lol.

I love my Outback. Dependable and good gas mileage for something that can haul so much.

you’d think at some point we’d figure out how to build resilient, fairly hurricane proof homes and buildings but I guess you can’t or it’d be prohibitively expensive?

flooding and wind. surely you could design a structure that wont be obliterated by that.

Disney World closing for the first time since March of 2020.

I’m in Jacksonville right now, looks like we’ll prob get hit, but it’ll just be a boatload of rain and 65mph winds by then

How in the world is he not blacklisted? lmao

After Andrew in like 1992, Florida changed it’s building codes and now our houses are pretty resilient to winds.

This is what I got when I googled hurricane proof house:

Doesn’t look expensive

I’ve wondered this also.

Imagine doing that then getting a Cat 5 direct hit and losing it anyway.

I feel like at any moment I’m going to witness someone getting swept out to sea.

Yeah, that’s why I turned it off.

They have a pithy saying about this in Florida:

Come on vacation,
Get swept out to sea during evacuation.
