Some old lady hit on me in a bar once. I thought she said I looked like Tom Cruise. Not really accurate, and a bit of an outdated reference, but whatever, she was at least mid-60’s and I assumed she just picked out the most attractive guy she knew from 30 years ago so I said thanks. Then she was like “Do you know who he is? The Senator from Texas?” and I realized I had misheard and I still don’t know how to feel about it.
You look squishy in the middle and vaguely human?
Are you Phil Hellmuth?
You know how to feel about it.
Reminds me of comedian Bobcat Goldthwait’s story about his comedy album:

Ted has some competition for biggest dickhead in Texas.
Donnie is undisputed in the country.
The problem with this analysis is it ignores the harm side of the equation. All well and good to donate $100 bucks to a charity, or spend an hour volunteering at a fundraiser. However, if the same day you spend your political time arguing LFBTQ people are an abomination you are not a good person. Especially knowing that the very charity you are so proud of is only needed by many of those same LGBTQ people because of the atmosphere of hate you created.
I don’t have time to look into these numbers, but one thing you have to be careful about in these kinds of comparisons is the types of charities to which people are donating. As some have said, religious donations can be highly suspect for a variety of reasons (e.g. donations to Joel Osteen’s church), but also, the non-religious donations can be to faux or sham charities to dodge taxes, like the Trump charity or w/e. Also, I suspect republicans have more disposable income to donated. Your arrival may control for all those variable, but just wanted to point out some more considerations.
Are we counting as charity the time that evangelical missionaries lobbied the Ugandan government to imprison homosexuals?
Or the countless evangelical-run orphanages in Haiti where parents unable to feed their children have to give them up as “orphans” who will be forcefed a Christian education in exchange?
Or churches.

He actually came pretty close to beating Ted Cruz. I’m highly supportive for several reasons but chief among them is his relative ability to connect with Hispanic voters, a massive under reported failure for Democrats that is absolutely crucial for durable electoral majorities.
Lol. I predict Beto will fundraise an earth-shattering record-breaking amount from all over the country, outspending Abbot 10 to 1… and then lose by 10 points.
The mistake is classifying hispanics as a monolithic group. Blue collar hispanics now vote like blue collar whites.
I like the way he stands on tables.
Beto is hugely popular in Texas.
that’s a gross oversimplification which is probably not helpful. one election in which the incumbent released a jingle in spanish moved the polls a few points. it’s far from voting like blue collar whites. come on now.
