True, but I’m completely serious. Current Republicans are totally divorced from reality, all that they need is a narrative. Ted getting called out for dereliction of duty in the middle of a catastrophe is actually “Liberals attacking me for protecting my family”. AOC dunking on him constantly on social media is “Bullying by the so-called tolerant left”, etc. All Republican voters want to hear about is how bad they have it. Ted should absolutely frame any legitimate criticism of him as victimization.

To the extent that things matter, the problem with @boredsocial’s approach is this exact scenario happened in 2011 and 1989ish. The MSM is finding all kinds of warnings. BS making that argument in the context of his job would be bullshitting the client with no media telling the client otherwise.
I see that after 2011, the Legislature required reports on winterization efforts, no mention of a requirement to actually winterize.

Cruz is not Trump. He almost lost in 2018. Texas is not this deep red state that everyone thinks it is.
If none of this mattered, Cruz would have LOL’d while drinking a margarita and stayed in Cancun. He clearly knows the optics are bad and is trying to save face.

That only would have worked if he didn’t apologize. It’s going to be hard for him to blame libs when he has admitted that it was a bad decision and the criticism is fair.
Not saying that will entirely stop him from pivoting, but this approach of blaming libs for criticizing you when you do bad things, only worked for Trump because he never gave an inch.

It also works for Trump because they think he’s a self made billionaire sacrificing his time and energy to fight liberals. Cruz is a political hack from Harvard.
I wonder how this plays out if a random traveler doesn’t snap a picture of Ted at the airport. He’d probably be sitting on the beach right now and literally nobody would even know he was gone because he’s so useless anyway. Photographer deserves a lot of credit if this actually does damage Ted’s career.

I’m hoping this meme stuff that the kiddies like can be used to just hammer Ted Cruz in a way that leads to the Cruz daughters feeling ashamed of their father and being incited to commit Claudia Conway-level acts of rebellion to assuage their embarrassment. I’m sure his daughters go to some private school with a predominantly rich student body, but it’s nice to dream of them being tormented because of who their father is until they turn on him.
Yeah I can confidently tell you that Texans have never experienced anything remotely like this. That’s the way you talk your way out of it as the person on the wrong end of it.
I also haven’t seen any cost estimates on weatherization in Texas from any of these ‘they should have seen it coming’ articles. It sounds really fucking expensive to me. This is not the kind of state that does really expensive stuff to prevent things that happen every 15-20 years.
Because Trump is unique. Ted Cruz can’t do what Trump did and be liked. Even Republicans see him for what he is. Crenshaw is 100x more likely to be president of Texas politicians.
They certainly don’t care about anything guys on “their team” does wrong. But they will descend relentlessly on opponents who do the same.
Probably one of the most confusing things of this modern political divide is how easy one group can brush away any cognitive dissonance without a second thought. Try as I might I can never do it. Always ends up making me feel fraudulent and like an unaware simpleton. I do not know how they do it, but it’s pretty important to everything they do.
I wonder if Don Jr. is thinking of Ann Richards back from when he was still young enough to sit on uncle jeffrey’s lap?
Abbott has got to feel good about trying to suck up to Trumpism for five years to then have the oldest son think he is a democrat.

I think he’s trolling Cruz here. Saying it’s not a big deal, while trying to get Cancun Cruz trending. I suspect that the Trumps still hate Cruz from 2016.
Except Cruz, and none of the wannabe Trump’s, have the fortitude to push through stuff like this.
Running for president will absolutely remind everyone about this every day and he does not have the tools to push past it.

The part where he thinks the governor of Texas is a Democrat.
They are results-oriented thinkers. It’s pretty easy for them to think like that. You can see it on the left with people who value winning brushing off attacks from the left on Biden and Democrats in Congress if they think that criticism could hurt electorally.
I think people keep trying to overlay how Trump would respond to these situations and how anyone else would respond. Trump was pretty singular in his ability to not care/ignore everything he didn’t deem important.
None of the republicans scratching and clawing for 2024 have that ability and it is a fatal flaw given the way the party and their supporters currently work.
Ted is a politician, which means he is always going to give a non apology apology. The Trump base views that as cuckbetasimp weakness and they will find it hard to push a “he is just being attacked by the liberals for no reason” when he is in front of a camera on his knees crying.
