Tennis anyone?

Bad time for someone not in the big 3 to come of age. Murray and Stan got 3 each since Roger’s first. Safin got 1 to bring his total to 2. Five other guys got 1 each which includes Roddick way back at the 03 USOpen just after Fed’s first at Wimbledon.

60/72. 66/72 including Stan and Andy.

I watched this interview recently where Roger gives a detailed account of his racket history and the current model. One of the better claims comes near the end. Apparently Sampras was extremely particular about everything including the matte black paint on the Pro Staff, and then Roger says he can definitely feel a difference in the paints.

It’s well-known in musical instrument making that choice of finish affects stiffness of acoustic materials, although I’m not sure if the racket effect he’s talking about here is from more binder in the paint itself or clearing it with lacquer. I once sanded some of my rackets down to the graphite and sprayed them matte because of glare and garish paint jobs, and those ended up being some of my favorites, but now I’m wondering if it’s because they subconsciously felt better. I never thought to A/B them for feel.

We have a teaching pro here that claims to only hit with one face of the racquet.

That used to be a thing, with a rough side and a smooth side. Don’t know if it still is, but assume so.

So he flips it around for a backhand?

That’s what I’m not sure of. I don’t have first hand info. Many people claim it.

Mounting evidence this guy is a complete jackass.

This is the same guy that nearly decapitated an old lady with a ball through her throat a few months ago, right? He should be banned from competition, but obviously will never happen to one of the best to play the game.

Novak’s always been known to be an asshole. He hired some PR peeps years ago to help change that but dumped them eventually.

Can’t fix douchebag I guess

He got DQ and fined. That seems reasonable.

Olympics is not part of tour/slams so probably no further discipline. But as a multi offender he really should have a suspension. Really starting to hate the asshole.

Yea, seems reasonable for the tournament he hit the lady in. But he clearly has not fixed his anger issue/mental game struggles as seen by him chucking a racket into the stands and smashing one into the net post. If he endangers other people this regularly with his recklessness there should be more long term consequences imo.

More like No-vax Chokeabitch amirite?

Apparently in an ESPN meeting somewhere, someone suggested the idea of having a split screen with two matches, with the audio from each, including announcers, bleeding over each other constantly while both matches had action going. Instead of being summarily laughed out of the room, this idea was adopted.

Yikes.

I spent a few hour at the Tennis Hall of Fame today. Good stuff.

Ironic then that for whatever reason ESPN2 is not working on our vote TV less than 2 miles away. ESPN has been putting CFB on in the evenings so tennis gets bumped to the deuce.

Is there any kind of movement to get women to play best of five, too?

No. The men don’t play 3/5 except at the majors and Davis cup.

Gotcha, thanks. Was wondering how that wasn’t a big deal (though I’d imagine women will eventually play best of five whenever the men do, bc there’s literally no reason not to)
