Summer LC thread

I’ve never heard “kind bud” but ‘bud’ still gets used.

‘Flower’ is what I hear the most for stuff that’s not: dabs, edibles, or juice. I hate calling it flower but I hear it a ton.

Goodness

Is what the kids round here use, and they answer back on it like… “Hey I hope your behaving today, Lad”

“Ofcourse man, I’m full of goodness”

I think “good shit” is timeless, fwiw.

How long before we find out Malcom Gladwell (I’m assuming that is the “Gladwell”) is into kids or has covered for some child abuse?

JFC I don’t understand how it is this hard for people to have some empathy and see that what is being done to others would really fucking suck if it were done to them? Why do so many people have to wait till they get shit on to understand?

Let’s just say for the sake of argument Venus had an earthlike industrial civilization and triggered runaway global warming.

a) Could satellites still be orbiting 750 million years later?

b) Would we notice them assuming they’re the size of a car or whatever most of our satellites are now?

Keeed?

a. From what I’m finding on google, it looks like over millions of years the solar wind and other weird effects will eventually kick a satellite out of Venus’ s orbit and it would be in a solar orbit. Ex: Yarkovsky effect - Wikipedia

b. Seems unlikely? Or if we did we’d probably mistake it for a normal space rock.

a) All the satellites in low Venus orbit would certainly be lost to atmospheric drag after a few months/years/decades/millennia/eons depending on the height of their orbit. Earth’s atmosphere is significant into low earth orbit hundreds of miles up, think the space station is like at 300 miles and it would degrade in a few months or years at a minimum if it they didn’t actively maintain their orbits. The atmosphere isn’t an abrupt cut off and just gets less and less dense as it goes up so there would probably be enough drag even thousands of miles up to eventually have the satellites fall back to Earth. Venus has a much thicker atmosphere than earth so that would probably be true there as well. Could satellites in Venostationary orbit stay in place indefinitely? Certainly yes, since a day on Venus is like 100 Earth days so a satellite in Venostationary orbit would be way higher than a geostationary satellite. Seriously like hundreds of thousands of miles up as opposed to like 15k miles up.

b. I don’t think we’d notice them. And if we picked them up on a radar scan or whatever there would be no way to tell them apart from a small asteroid. There’s a bunch of objects that size running around the solar system. Remember that asteroid that exploded over Russia? That was the size of a school bus, it hit our planet and we’re looking for stuff like that, at least a little. Something that size orbiting a million miles above Venus? Eh, no way.

edit: they don’t have the Yas whatever effect in Kerbal Space Program so I dunno about all that. But yeah a billion years is a long time who knows what shit satellites get up to.

Quick google says Peterson was prescribed the drug after his wife’s terminal cancer diagnosis this spring. Seems…fine? I mean sure if you already are looking for reasons to hate the guy, whatever have at it. Is he some big anti-drug warrior and this is hypocritical or something? I don’t get it.

It’s the hypocrisy, dumbass

He’s the go out there and make something of yourself guy, right? Clean your room and go grab life by the balls or whatever? Is it hypocritical other than the kind of mild hypocrisy that arises whenever a self-help guru has some sort of personal problem or failing?
