I was thinking that sounds like a John Prine song!
Think you could do a safe?
Not a real one, no. Hereās a picture of the same lock. With some practice I think you could reliably open these in a few minutes. The value of the lock will be greater than anything I secure with it so if someone takes it ![]()
Richard Feynman made people at Los Alamos believe he was some kind of expert safecracker but he was a fraud. Good self-promoter though.
When I was little, I LOVED garbage day. This was before the days of garbage trucks using the mechanical arms to pick up the bins at the curb. We had our garbage bagged in the classic metal garbage cans in front of our garage.
In my neighborhood, they used little satellite garbage trucks to go up everyoneās driveway, then the garbage man would get out, take the bags, and heave them into his little truck. I would watch him from the window and heād always wave.
Then the little truck would drive to the big garbage truck, parked on the street somewhere, and dump everything into it. I called the big truck the āmother ship.ā I just thought the whole thing was so cool.
Yeah when I was little, my career ambition was āgarbage manā
Mine was leaf collector, because I thought they only worked two weeks out of the year and got to spend the rest of the year home with their family. I was pretty upset when I learned they were the garbage men in a different truck.
I remember when I was still in my young career as a mixer that my assistant and I would walk to a 7-11 and one day we saw something I hadnāt seen before. I told him Iād like to do that job one day. It was a dude in some kind of truck spraying water at streetlights to clean them. It looked pretty fun.
Similarly, when I was a kid I thought my garbage man had a dream job. He lived in our neighborhood and I thought that he worked one day a week collecting our neighborhoodās trash. I mentioned in to my mom and, āer, he works for the city, heās collecting other peopleās trash the other four days.ā Dream crushed.
on a related note, Trash Truck is an excellent show
Is that job robot proof at the collection stage?
Attended a protest with my daughter yesterday, around 1000 people or so. As we left the wind started blowing and a big gust hit us and then a lady came running up behind us waving a sock Iāve been missing for two weeks. Washed my jacket with it and it mustāve clung to some velcro. I was stoked and glad I kept the mate!
Pretty wild story up until the wash explanation. Win.
Now thatās what I would call a small win
Are you saying he has small feet?
Rude af imho
;)
I posted in the ranting thread a while ago about an issue I had with an online order. It wasnāt a lot of money but they were clearly (and it turns out, maybe illegally in Utah) refusing to accept a return. I filed a claim with my CC and today got notice I got my money back and case closed. Win.
Thatās the first time in some 30 years ordering crap online I had to do that. Anyway, thanks @nunnehi for the encouragement.
I graduated college 14 years ago with $105k in debt. Iāve paid back way more than that, and still have $4300 of state loans and $10,000 federal.
I just withdrew enough from my sports book accounts since betting is kind of dead now to fully pay off my state loans, which will reduce my monthly expense by $405. The federal are still in deferral with interest accruing, so I pay enough to cover interest and knock of some principal each month on those. But I am officially DONE with my state loans and it feels really really good.
Saw the doctor today. A lot of stuff is TBD but he said āYou aced the cognitive test.ā* Sunshine, banana, chair, baby! Win.
*Apparently thatās what they say to everybody.
Was having an audio problem on my PC this morning. Did a bunch of Googling, but it was the usual āupdate driversā bullshit. Decided to run the Windows automated troubleshooter and it actually fucking worked. Blind squirrel, broken clock, etc.
At least it didnāt automatically upgrade you to Windows 13 and kill all your USB ports for hard drives.
