Small Wins

saw this on twitter, made me think of this thread…

other than reading a book all at once (bc who tf has the attention span for that), i can check all the boxes, which i’ll try to remind myself whenever i’m stressing something that life ain’t all that bad.

lol #10…so you’re either retired or rich enough to not work. Or does “naturally” include set-an-alarm-but-others-in-my-house-wake-up-earlier-than-me-and-I-wake-up-from-the-noise?

I do have most of that list, though.

Some of those are pretty big wins imo.

I succeeded in my micro-resolution to stay away from sugary junk food for a few days. Win.

I might average using an alarm once a month since high school.

Eta: but then most of the time I don’t have number four…but even when I had regular jobs they were civilized and didn’t have strictly set hours…forgot about all the alarms for the kids going to school, man School sucks.

I got some Ballpark microwave hamburgers, which are surprisingly good for what they are. On the package, it said 6 count. There were 7 in it.

Also, Mr. Pibb in what is probably close to its original formula is back and available in my area. The reformulation was always available when I went to Texas but never here.

Those are some small wins.

10 minutes from work? I live an hour from work and consider that closer than most.

My work is down the hall from my bedroom

Closer than most? What population are you comparing yourself to?

People in the London suburbs?

others in Toronto that work downtown.

Buying a house that gave me a 9 minute commute (to a different state no less) without traffic was one of the biggest small wins I’ve ever had.

the unpaid hour+ out of your day to commute is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the american people

That’s a full month on the road every year.

healthy companies consider this, others force you to live in highly expensive suburban areas with rapidly rising inflation and thank your edem leaders for how good the economy is while
you live at essentially minimum wage 10 years ago at $80k a year.

Praise capitalism

Are you on public transportation? I feel like I could deal with an hour on a subway much more than an hour on a car with stop and go traffic.

bus+ train or bus+ subway. I could drive, but it would still be 30 minutes with traffic and then getting out of downtown at the end of the day is a nightmare and could be 45+. Also parking would be $15 if I wanted to walk 8 minutes or $40 to walk 2 minutes.

found another small win

I bought a combination cable lock at a thrift store for $2. New they’re about $30 but there was no combination for it. I figured it wouldn’t take that long to cycle through the 10,000 possibilities. Wrong, and I somehow missed the right combo. So I tried the “feel” technique before giving up. After some fiddling around, I got it open and reset the combination. Win.
