Should previous banned posters be unbanned?

Should previous regular posters (more than 200 posts) be unbanned?

As a general rule no, they were banned for a reason. Although on a case by case basis maybe there’s some.

There are 4 or 5 accounts banned by moderators for rule related issues, the rest of the suspended user list is made up of alts, spam bots, and self requested bans.

We’ve done this in the past haven’t we? Anyone got a list of unbanned posters who didn’t just end up getting banned again?

You guys make decisions by democracy here?

lfg now we’re having a little bit of fun

Most of the prominent people who left had their accounts nuked

And this in my opinion has been a big problem. People nuke accounts, come back on another handle, and start making wild shit up about past events and there can’t really be receipts because the conversations are now mangled and gone. There’s workarounds to recovering who is saying what but it’s tremendously annoying. It’s why I always recommend to people over the years to quote posts because if the person nukes their account, the quoted post + username remains.

Based on some of the recent posting that is allowed and even encouraged no one should have ever been banned or ran off the site. If we are really allowing Klansky level sex pest threads and anti-trans posting threads I think we can be mature enough to understand the basis for the word ■■■■ from our UK friends.

That being said I expect this to lose by a wide margin as the boogeymen in this case have been successfully otherized by a very small subset of posters.

Yeah if someone was just banned for using the C word they should be invited back. I didn’t realize that was the trigger though. Most of the people who I saw banned were just constant shit stirrers and the forum discourse is better with them gone but there’s a lot of the forum I don’t follow.

The c word was the pretext for some people to insult posters they didn’t like anyways from the uk incessently. Things escalated from that and people left or got banned. Obviously that wasn’t the only squabble.

I’m still proud of the split the baby in half bleep solution we came up with, that was one of the most bitter forum fights in its history with the dumbest resolution ever

■■■■

it still makes me laugh

I don’t really take back any of my previous desires to ban posters as in the moment it was pretty obvious and it’s easy to put on rose colored glasses and look at the past. That being said I am on board with banned people being unbanned but it seems like it could be a lot of work for mods if people come back and there are contentious back and forths. But I agree that ignore can do 90% of the job.

I couldn’t name on person, with certainty that has been banned due to their behavior but I know they exist and I know some of them I supported being banned at the time. I offer no apologies but I can change my thoughts on how best to manage the forum in the now.

Honestly I think a mass unban would have little impact on the forum as I assume people banned don’t necessarily want to come back, but I still support it.

in general yes, people should get a second chance

definitely some that shouldn’t though

Were people banned for using ■■■■ or were they banned because they couldn’t compromise and blew the situation out of proportion making the site unreadable for quite some time?

I’m fine with Rivaldo remaining banned/suspended.

You have more choices than status quo or unban everyone. If we had a vote to unban 1-2 people as a pilot program to see if further unbannings are warranted, who would you vote for?

Can we move the poll to a reply instead of the OP so I can vote

When you ignore a user, you can unhide their replies but not their OPs

I wasn’t planning on voting so I can proxy for you if you want
